Handyman Work Van Tour 2023

Here is a tour of my work van that I use to run my handyman business. I love optimizing it so that I can be more efficient on the job.
If you're interested in checking out some of the tools and materials I used to deck my van out, I've provided links to them on amazon. They are affiliate links so if you choose to buy, I'll make a small commission at no additional charge to you.

Excellent set-up, lots of thought to plan out tool and general equipment storage. First one I have seen with a toilet installed. Very smart idea. I have for years had a five gallon bucket, such as you get at the big box stores. And I attached a toilet seat. I line the bucket with strong garbage bags. I don't have to use it often but it has come in very handy.

Very well done. I really love the move out rack for table saw ET al. Having a dedicated dust bin and Pan/brush area on the rear door goes to show your attention to details. Nice. My 2 cents worth is to keep heavy items like compressors etc close to the exit point. Also. If you can afford 2 or 3 inches of space, you can utilize the long plywood wall on the right when u walk from rear to front to hang things, as long as they don’t interfere your getting in and out. Happy new year

  • @TheHandyManual

    @TheHandyManual

    2 жыл бұрын

Happy New Year to you. Agreed about keeping large tools accessible. In my case, I don’t use the compressor a whole lot and it easily wheels out if I need it. I’ve seen a lot of people keep their compressor fixed in their van/trailer and use a hose reel instead of lugging it out every time so that’s an option too. I like your idea to use that flat space on the plywood to hang things. However, I sometimes need to transport large items and debris so I need as much width as I can have in that center aisle.

Thanks for the tour! I appreciate van videos for the utilization of space. I noticed you use a lot 3/4. I built a lot of stuff out of 1/2 using pocket holes, it gave me a great opportunity to figure out using pocket holes in that this of a material, and it’s still holding up after 10 years. Especially all the bins and drawers I made out of 1/2.I thought I’d mention it seeing space is a premium in your set up. Love the sheet good storage. I did a tour of my trailer here on KZread. I got so many ideas on here, pintrist and a thread on contractor talk. Looking forward to to your next mods. May your work be tighter, faster and more profitable with every job you complete.

Thanks for your kind words! I used mostly 3/4 because my racking design called for a lot of dados so I thought 1/2 might be a bit thin. However, the 3/4 adds a lot of weight so in future fit outs I might opt for 1/2 or 5/8. Love that you took inspiration from KZread as well!

I've seen all of Ron Paulk's stuff, and it occurred to me to cut some dados every foot or so in the long drawers, to sub-divide them off if needed. Glad to see you also came up with that idea.

That is nice setup. I worked out of a 1984 Ford E150 with the passenger seats removed. I never built it out because I was always hauling materials to jobs and hauling off debris. Most jobs would barely dent a dumpster so hard to justify. I would take tools on a job specific basis. I could get up to a 24-foot extension ladder in the van with doors closed. It's nice to have all your tools but if you have an accident or it gets stolen, you lose everything.

@@radchander That's funny that you mentioned auto shop restrooms. I'm a retired automotive technician. I ran my own shop for the better part of 20 years. When I was revamping the waiting room and restroom, I based everything on 'would my wife or daughter feel comfortable in here.' Let's face it, guys don't really care. If there is a TV and a toilet, that's good enough. My waiting room and restroom looked like something you would find in a nicely finished basement/ recreation room. People don't want to be at a shop. Period. They don't want to spend money fixing a car. It a grudge purchase. There was nothing automotive related, except for a few magazines. No posters, no signs. Just some decorative things my wife picked out. And the restroom, always spotless. I've seen some shop restrooms so bad that I didn't want to use it. Think how a woman would feel. I got lots of comments over the years. People really do appreciate things like that. And when a customer is at ease they are more likely to spend money.

Nice van! I just bought an E-250 myself. Came with metal trades shelf/bin system but I plan to slowly customize it and probably do something similar to yours.

Awesome! Glad the 250's are still out there and getting the job done. I took a week off from jobs to build mine after designing it. Ripped out all the factory metal shelving and started from scratch. Doing it piece mail is a good idea too so you don't miss out on making money :)

Good job man , i like to see used tools no matter of brand . It's too much youtube setups that not used once , just for show off :D

Very nice and practical. I've been doing handyman work out of my truck for the past two years and it sucks moving gear and tools in and out.

That's my problem I prefer trucks and the only way when I was a roofer and metal worker but when I became an electrician and later an appliance tech I worked out of vans but still prefer the easy access of the truck but the security of a van is kinda a good trade off. I work out of a truck now and my dad works out his van and sometimes we trade vehicles depending on jobs but it's hard to replace one with the other

Yeah, the great debate between a truck or van will keep raging on. I prefer a van for the reason you mentioned, all tools in one spot and there’s more opportunity to customize inside.

As you acquire more tools, it definitely helps to have a cargo van to keep everything in one place

Nice van. I work out of a 97 ram about to hit 300k miles and my dad uses 98 dodge van with a little less but they do the job and keeps the expense of newer vehicles but will probably upgrade to a newer truck by the end of the year

I think the toilet is a great idea besides all the shelves and drawers. I would feel more comfortable using my own toilet.

Great job bro. Is the reason you have a work van, because you’d rather not drive a trailer? Because this is the route I’m thinking of taking, and that’s the reason lol.
