In this video, I demonstrate our method of drilling and burning in the tang of a hidden tang spoon knife.

hello jason, thank you for your videos, they allow you to discover your tools which seem very efficient. I started woodturning two years ago, and I love it. Recently I have been interested in bowls and spoons... the continuation of woodturning. this is why I am monitoring your future production of spoon knife blades...soon, I hope. Thank you for everything.

Excellent video Jason! The tip about turning the spoon blade away from square to handle is most important. Most knives I see are not done this way..thank you for the content!!!

I have that drill motor. I have several all metal drill motors. It has been described as a problem. I am glad to see that I am not the only one.

What dimension and which species wood do you prefer for a sloyd handle. My new blade from your shop is in route.

What is the appropriate size of the wooden handle blank?

Got an old pitchfork with a 3/4" wide tang. What size hole in a handle should I look for??

A 1/2" hole would work well, but you may not have much choice.

What type of epoxy?

Most any 30 minute epoxy will work fine. You don't want to use 5 minute epoxy, or something really thick like JB Weld.

I have used all kinds of epoxies to do this, including JB Weld. Even used JB Weld to fix custom Japanese saw blades into custom handles I made. Worked well, despite extra heavy use on big, rough timber.

Great video. I'm glad I found this. Maybe I missed this in the video but I'm assuming you're going to heat treat the blade after this? I would think heating the handle may cause the blade to lose temper.

The blade comes with a blank of just the tang to perform this operation with. That is what he’s using in the video, not the blade itself.
