The Book was performed as if they were there when Handel was composing it. Everything is on point. Am just wishing my CHORAL GROUP (GLORIOUS MUSICIANS CHORAL GROUP) in Sierra Leone all the best as we perform The Oriento Judas Maccabaeus on the 21st August 2022.

When i was 9, we were assigned to bring the Bible to the class, and by accident i found Maccabeus 2, i read it and became fascinated by the descriptions, so much so that i read the bible entirely at that age (sadly, the bible doesn´t get more epic than that) . So yeah, it´s quite a read.

What an ensemble, the orchestra, the soloist and the choir! The timber! I did some of the pieces when I was a conductor and music director for Johannesburg Choral Society. We would perform some of these pieces in concert halls in Soweto. Handel is very much liked in that part of the world and probably the whole of Southern Africa.

I love the robust singing of the chorus in this performance. So tired of anemic ‘early music’ renderings of this sort of music. Handel’s music which can be quite tender does have a strong manly quality as well but we never hear that now. I find this performance thrilling.

This is my favorite version of Judas Maccabeus! I have it also in CD. Nothing to compare with many of the "new interpretations" of Händel, without the vibrancy and power that are main characteristic of Händel´s compositions.:You got it wright in describing the " early music" as "anemic!

Especially by the BBC, I've been listening to BBC radio 3, regularly for about 40 years and they do play Handel (of course) and he's been 'composer of the week', many times, but I've never heard anything from Judas Macc., or even Judas Macc. mentioned. It might be the 'Culloden factor'. They much prefer J.S. Bach, me, I prefer Offenbach, to Bach Offen! Judas! shall set the captive free, and lead us on, to victory!

Easter was stolen from the PAGAN celebration of Ostara, also known as Eastre- the godDESS of fertility who celebrated it long before. Easter eggs and the Easter Bunny both featured largely in the spring festivals of the goddess Ostara. The rabbit (famous for its skill at rapid reproduction) was her sacred animal and brightly colored eggs, chicks, and bunnies were all used at festival time to honor this goddess of fertility and abundance. Crazy Medieval christians believed the hare brought misfortune, saying witches changed into rabbits in order to suck the cows dry. It was claimed that a witch could only be killed by a silver crucifix or a bullet when she appeared as a hare.

gemstone212121 Handel was not only German, but he wrote in Italian style with French influences; so he was quite a true multiculturalist. Also, he brought many foreigners to England, so they could work in his theatrical productions. I think linking Handel to culturalism is about as witty as linking the evolution of humanity to a piece of swiss cheese...
