    I appreciate the seam being used as both part of the design and emphasising the process. Thanks for posting.

    Hi, It is a plastic sheet similar to a table mat, that I am using. Got them from a friend. They do stick on the clay even though it doesn't apear so. I dust my clay with cornstarch to avoid that sticking. Another thing that works well is XRays

    Thanks for the info, Charan. I really appreciate your helpful suggestions. I'd love to see more in depth video on the "painted tiles" you made (peeling up the paper was just a teaser)! Materials, products used, technique wold be much appreciated. I am a sculptor primarily, and am always looking for great surface techniques. Bambi

    Thanks so much. Tomorrow we are making mugs in the children's class I teach and I picked up a few pointers even though I've made many hb mugs before. I use the wallpaper brayer a lot.

  • @CharanSachar
    @CharanSachar14 жыл бұрын

    @vrlooney The roller is a wall paper brayer you can get at a home improvemnt store. The texture tool for making parallel lines I made myself and the texture tools I got at thrift stores. And I use a cookie cutter for the bottom. Others are just basic clay working tools you can get at any clay supply store.

    Hi Bambi, Mylar paper is nothing but metallic gift wrapping paper. Check your local stationary shops and even dollar stores. I have used clear gift wrapping paper too. It just needs to be something that doesn't absorb the water from the slip. Experiment with different ones to see which stiffness you like better.

    I love the video Handbuilt cups. I wonder what the dimensions on the pattern are. It looks like it is slightly bigger on the top than bottom. I would love the dimensions .

    Do you such beautiful work. Thank you for showing your process. Can I ask you a question? How do you keep your tumblers round at top consistently ? I would think that even though you use an egg to round it clay has memory and would tend to warp to a somewhat elliptical shape after glaze firing. Thank you.

  • @CharanSachar

    Good question. The egg or any rounded form helps and I use it every time I touch the mug in any step. First while forming, then when attaching the bottom l, then when adding buttons, and when adding the handle. That forces to clay memory to stay in the round again and again. They are not perfect to round still, but if I wanted it perfectly round I would just throw on the wheel. Hope that explains it

    WOW! That was the quickest response ever. Thank you! It makes sense that you keep reinforcing the clay memory. I do realize that the tumbler will never be perfectly round but as a wanna be hand builder my attempts have always yielded a pointier side where the clay attaches. I appreciate your generosity in sharing your knowledge. Thank you again.

    Instead of the irritating music you should have given some explanations of your methodology and tools being used. Although apparently obvious for the advanced potterer, this did nothing for me.
