How happy am I right now? Super happy because I got up the nerve to try my hand at three (03) different size tumblers and they turned out good. I have to tweak some steps because they each have my finger impressions (they are for my use so I'm not bothered by the imperfections) and they are not perfectly round at the top but for my first attempts...I'm getting ready to make a set of four. So, thanks again for your videos!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I enjoy how you take us step by step throughout the process and you don't seem to rush through your videos from the ones that I have seen so far. Since I'm new to ceramics your teachings have taken aware the fear of trying one's hands at new projects. I'm not sure that I will attempt the tumblers just yet but this is something to place on my "Ceramic Bucket List" because they are very cute! Love the design by the way.

I am so glad that you find the videos useful! If the size seems difficult to start with, make smaller ones. They are easier to put together if they are shorter. I have another video on making small cups - same idea but much easier to handle and put together. I used to make them just to test glazes and liked them so much I now just make them as little cups. There are so many things to do with clay! Enjoy! The texture ball is very cool - it comes from shop.clay-planet.com/texture-spheres.aspx

Thanks for the resource for the texture sphere. You definitely have a knack for teaching and how you present the material throughout. I have been checking out other videos of yours and found the ones that I have watched (and re-watched) equally as enjoyable. I keep a water bottle near by and lightly spray the clay as I work to keep it moist if it’s gets too stiff.

Hi, thankyou for your very detailed videos. As a newbie it really helps. What do you call the tool you used to cut the angles on the ends?

I love your teaching method. it makes sense to me. how long do you wait before putting the mug together?

Thank you! I am glad you like it. :-) I wait until it's a soft leather hard... something like that. It has to be hard enough to hold it's shape and not crack when you bend it in to shape. but not too soft that it flops over when you put it together. I prefer it on the softer side so that I can manipulate it in to shape. You probably have to play around and see what works best for you.

Great project. What is that tool you use for cutting the 45 degree angle?

Thanks for the step by step tutorial! I am trying to research before I make my first slab tumbler. Do you find it's not necessary to use a coil on the inside of the tumbler to adhere the bottom? That would be such a time saver. :)

Thank you for sharing with us because of you I'm able to build a big vassal but I have one question that how your clay is so moist is that any particular thing you add in the clay-like what should I add ball clay or bentonite for moisture?

I am so glad that you find the videos helpful! I purchase my clay and it comes that way. I don't add anything to it. I don't really know anything about mixing clay from scratch so I can't really help you there.

You have a rotating disk, why dont you throw these cups?

Some cups I throw and some I hand build. Really depends on the look I am going for.

I love it too! It is from when I was doing cone 10 gas reduction at a community studio. We got the recipe from the potter Robert Compton. I dont have the recipe any more but maybe you can find it on line. Also this was done with wax resist, copper red and oribe in a reduction kiln. Do you fire cone 10?

How do you know how much clay to roll out for your slab?

I roll out big slabs using between 4 and 5lbs of clay and then cut off what I need for what I am making. Does that help? 🙂

You made the router or bought it? I use various items around the studio to round, but would rather have one tool like this.

I made the rounder. Look on KZread for the potter Bill van Gilder. He has a couple of videos on making a rounder. That is how I learned to make my rounder.

It is called a rounder. I learned to make it from a video I watched by potter Bill Van Gilder. He also has videos on KZread if you want to look and see how he makes it. I think he also sells them if you're interested in buying one.

Hello I was wondering your mugs you hand build then finish on the wheel how long do you let them sit before you put on the wheel.

I like to let them sit overnight covered so that the seams melt together well. Sometimes I let it go a few days but I try not to do it longer than that because they tend to dry out too much.

@@heididerksen8227 Just so you know I always use a few in this process. It's hard not to push too far and end up opening the seam. As you're learning to do it start off with a thicker slab until you feel comfortable with the process. Usually when I end up with too thin a slab to start that's when I break it open.
