Thank you for this video, I’ve got my late grandfather’s old watch which has a broken strap, it’s a cheap standard watch and nothing fancy, but I’d like to wear it myself as he left it as my inheritance. By making the watch strap myself, hopefully he’ll approve, being a very resourceful and handy man himself. Remember, tell your near and dear that you love them, tomorrow may be too late!

Still love your videos for the pure simplicity of the recording while also showing everything important in a great way (if that makes sense). Ive made a few watch straps as well, some of them so nice, that im confidently saying this isn't far off from very professional watch strap makers, some not very well... Probably due to different types of leather that were not really well suited for watch straps. Though what I've encountered almost all of the time (and can't get my head around it why that is), that the stitch line on the left is just a tiny bit shifted to the inside of the strap Than the left stitch line. Ive used the exakt same divider space and so on but can't get it to be perfectly even on both sides.

If you are not able to find it… perhaps you could recycle a very lightweight give-away backpack (the kind you are given by a company at a trade show) and make it double stick with the rubber cement glue… it’s what I plan on doing for the handles of a really nice purse I’ve got.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your strap making videos, sir. I've tried making some with an old belt. I also bought a piece of leather that is about 2.5 mm thick, and when I tried to put spring bars in and install into a watch, it seems the leather is way too thick. Am I missing something, or should I be getting thinner leather? When you use a liner, how thick is it? Thanks for any insight here. Keep up the great content!

If you do design your own watch pattern, be sure to remind yourself to add or reduce length in the center of the pattern pieces so you don't have to remake the pattern for larger or smaller wrists.
