I have been embroidering for about 55 years and this is the best explanation of the herringbone and french knot I have seen since my grandmother was teaching me needlework when I was 8 years old.

Ok! It just took me like... a solid 15 minutes of tossing my entire room for my hoop before realizing my mom for some reason had hung it on the coatrack!! But I'm ready!

For a pretty good light-duty embroidery hoop, cut the top half-inch (or about 2 cm) or so off an appropriately-sized margarine tub or cottage cheese thing or whatever plastic container you have. Then cut the whole middle out of the lid so you just have the part that snaps over the container. Lay the rim-part on a table, lay your fabric over that, and then snap the lid-part over it so the fabric is sandwiched between the two plastic parts. It won't be very strong but it's good to get you through your first project if it's small. :-)

Just starting to really appreciate hand stitching and this channel has been such a great find! I’m sad that your convention was cancelled due to plague, but it’s great that your videos can reach a broader audience.

For a beginner wanting something real simple huck weaving may be quite fun! It is done on veeeery large threaded monks cloth and although the stitches are like.. literally weaving up and down there are some nice patterns for a beginner to get into

Your videos were the absolute best part of cocovid for me, the pure joy of finishing these projects were the high point of my week! I am very happy to have discovered your channel and attended these classes, which I wouldn't be able to do in "normal world" since I don't live in the US... Thank you very much! I'll be sure to come back for future videos.

This was so soothing to watch! and I think I finally understand what my embroidery has been lacking. My stem stitch is too long. I start ok but it lengthens as I go. I really like your method of bringing the needle up before pulling the last stitch tight. Thank you!

At last I know how to do a chain stitch. I've been sewing for many years and always passed up anything that required a chain stitch. I'm self taught and could never figure out how to do it. So thank you very much.

This is the most difficult way of sewing stem stitch that I've ever seen: normally you go from left to right & then it's very easy to do :) Anyway, very nice video & thx a lot :)

I do the chainstitch the wrong way as it's more comfortable and no chance of losing the links I've already made: I make a tiny stitch, come up away from it, pull the needle under the tiny stitch and back down where I last came up, the come up a little bit away and pass the needle under the previous link. if you accidentally pull too hard, it wont undo the work you've done. a bit more fiddly but I would recommend it for long connected lengths or if you're like me, someone who is constantly interrupted and often has to put down the work piece haphazardly.
