In today's episode of our Dream Boat Series, we head back to the Latitude Boats Factory in Fort Myers, Florida and begin the lamination process. In this process the fiberglass is hand laid using two layers of one and half ounce. This is referred to as the skin-coat which is the top gel coat layer that acts begins the bonding.

I've been building boats for 15 years and it's crazy how all boat builders do thing differently
So cool you get to be hands on throughout the whole process.
I remember when I firstr found this channel. One of my original comments I think was something to do with content. The only channel on the subject of fishing that had really cool content and you still deliver. Awesome work

Agreed.
Wow. I normally restrict my videos to fishing only but I find this incredibly interesting. Love the attention to detail by these craftsmen. Looking forward to seeing many more throughout the process all the way thru to the maiden fishing voyage. Keep ‘um coming!
That’s awesome! Can’t wait too see all the way through!
Looking good Capt! Can’t wait time watch this entire build. Never know, we might have to get one of these for our charter up here in Panama City, FL.
great video Capt mike. amazing the amount of physical hand labor that goes into making a quality boat. the explanation of the different fiberglass mattings was very enlightening.
Absolutely A-1 content. Fantastic explanation as per usual captain Mike. I’m wondering how many boats you’re helping to sell . Lol. I hope Duper cuts you a break somewhere. He should. Because you now have me taking the bait as well as the rest of the school. Great job !! I’m so stoked on these updates Kevin
I’m truly enjoying this Mike. I love seeing the master of a trade at work.
Captain Mike; happy for you man; Nice how you can be up close seeing your craft being built. Awesome of you including Valerie there with you. My wife is next to me and wanted me to add that comment and she’s right!
That's going to be one helluva nice boat.. Can't wait to see it when its all fitted out.
This build series start to finish is going to be awesome! 👍🏻
This is so cool, Mike, congrats on your new boat.
Really cool! I’ll enjoy watching the build process for your boat. Just built a bluewater 23T myself. Keep up the good work.
Always in the money! Awesome stuff. I really want to see this hull separate from that mold. Hope you are there to capture that. Really cool to see this stuff!!
Glad your showing us the whole boat build.
Love this video series. Please show the whole process start to finish. Would be nice to hear a word or two about the designer and how many of these hulls have been built. Also, is this the step that is done with "chopper guns" in higher production boats?
The video answers a lot of questions about layup.....
Good stuff captain mike!
The guys are doing excellent job laying that fiberglass.
Congrats on the new boat!
Attention to detail removing the air super job
Man, lots of great info. Great video.
This is great! Perfect timing because I'm the boat after you.
Good stuff brother! Was so happy to not see a chopper gun in the video! Looks like she’s gonna be a well built boat!
Congrats Capt.. thought you were going with competition
Kudos to all the workers and Craftsmanship
The boat is looking great🔥
Niceeeee to see how they make your new boat.
Amazing opportunity to help build your own boat, would be a awesome experience 😍
Those dudes really are artists!
the guy giving the lesson of the different Weaves was very informative this bat is going to be Bad Ass! i love the Hull Lines ,the length and Beam plus the Bow Angles She should be a very good performer out inBlue Water

She came out great. Thanks for tuning in.
Love these videos very interesting, how long will it take from order to delivery?
That is a lot of knowledge about the fiber cloth. I just started working for a shipyard here in Xiamen China and I didn't even know all that info about it untill watched your videos. lol
Interesting!
Hey captain Mike. Would you mind telling me what the red additive is that the guys are using in the resin? It looked like it changed color as it dried.
just out of curiosity, what is the mold made out of? looks like fiberglass as well but if it is, wouldnt it stick to the new fiberglass being laid down?? awesome process brother.. makes us feel one with your boat as well thru this journey..lol keep up the good vids bro..loving it all.
Thats nice. If i ever get the opportunity to build my boat from scratch and actually see it getting built, it would never be for sale.congrats. What kind of power u putting there?
Dream coming true, 🤙
brilliant video series

Thanks John
Did you use a different type of resin for the bottom vs the sides? I wondered why the sides was red before it cured vs what you see towards the end of the video.
💪💪💪 subbed
I do hope to get to see the complete build Captain Mike it’s kind of like when the wife gets pregnant and you watch as your baby grows waiting for the day that baby comes home ty again 🤙🤙🤙
Enjoy your channel. Just curious. You mentioned you will be powering with Suzuki. what made you change from Yamaha?
What oz chop strand mat 🤔 are y'all useing?
Just curious......what is the story behind the money glassed in the hull? By the way very cool whatever the reason. Never mind Hull#27 lol
About how long until the boat's ready?
What’s the pink stuff they put on there?
Curious as to what kind of resin they used.. I’m assuming polyester but the color was different when they laid the inside.

Yes, Polyester.
How manny layers they put?
How many mils is the white gelcoat thickness? only you layout: 1 mat 15oz-sqft 1 biaxial 1708 biaxial 1 biaxial 1808 biaxial?
How many layers did you put on it, and what kind of fiberglass are, mat and biaxial ??? 1708 1808???
1708 has chopped glass glued to the back. The glue dissolves in most resins... 1808 is a woven mat that is actually stitched together... I wonder if they are using vinylester, epoxy or polyester resins...
How many layers of fiberglass did you use?
Mike can u find out the brand of gun they are using to spray the gel coat.

curious about the two different colors of resins, side pink and bottom clear/white

The MEK catylist you put in the resin to make it harden / cure is either red or clear .
@nickhughes4317

@@scotthorton7786 isn't MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) a solvent not a catalyst ? and when both resins cured the same color. the MEKP (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) is maybe colored to ensure thorough mix consistency ?.
Why the second round of polyester resin don't have a rosy or purple color ???
FUNNY HOW THE GUY WITH THE BEARD IS WEARING A SEAVEE SHIRT. LOL
STITCHED!!!!!!!!!!! I KEPT SHOUTING STITCHED!!!!
is epoxy resin or poliester???
@djmjr77

Most boat hulls use polyester resin. Would be prohibitively expensive to use epoxy or even vinylester. A carbon fiber raceboat would be epoxy. another clue is they are using gelcoat, which is a polyester resin based product.
Nice👍🏾 WayPoint Customes 361 Tx
Why dont hey use a spray gun for the resin?
Lucky 27!
This video needed more of her 0:32 :)
La Migra. 🤣😂🤣🐟🎣🏆
They're incorrect. Before the 1.5 ounce matte is laid a layer of veil should be laid as the first layer.
Sup Mike, yo are you really leaving that bill there?
Vert interesting video! But I cant believe that they dont wear mask with proper filter.
Wait 24 hours that's f****** crazy better chance of cracking and pre-release

Also you should have went to the woven first while the gelcoat was drying technical term is flashing but how you would do that is is you would apply two coats of Joe coat first decent gel coat layers make sure you have the proper measuring tools and on the second layer of gel coat you would wait for that to flash and then add one final coat of gel coat to make sure everything's consistent around will say 1/8 to 1/4 in thick I would figure and then you would add your woven and then you would add your mat that doesn't make sense to me
There is too much waste to the fiber that they ddnt overlap. I think that will be recycled but still part of the overall cost of the boat.
When they're standing inside the hull they've put down a dry layer of fiberglass cloth and then some cardboard... interesting...
