My experience with stone grinders of the substantial kind is that they take a lot of energy (mine) to operate. They not only move tables around the floor but they flex surfaces and glued joints. You might consider bolting your table to the floor so your mate will not have to be a counterweight (I thought that was a great pun!) Bits of basalt grit will always get in your grindings; the stones wear against themselves as well as against the grain. I switched to steel burrs to avoid that issue, even if the flour was not quite so fine. My baking still came out well.

I love your grain mill but I will wait to see if I need it. Again, I love your videos and the off grid series. You never know when the zombies are going to strike.

That is very cool. I used to see the adds for the grain mills in Mother Earth News. Always thought it would be cool to do that, but wow $$$!!! I watched vids on YT about growing your own wheat and threshing and winnowing. It's so cool to learn how they used to do those things that most of us take for granted. I have also been thinking a lot lately about manual powered accessories. I think lots of people buy food processing equiptment only to realize that with no electricity, you are dead in the water. Cool vid. The bloopers are always funny. LOL

that thing is cool! one of the "expedient" milling ideas i have no idea where i got from was to duct-tape three heavy pipes together and use those to smash down on whatever you want ground up. i have never tried it but now after seeing this, i think i don't want to. i am adding this toy to my "shitlist" of stuff.. thanks, thumbs up

That flatbread looks great! You could also use the liquid from the garbanzo beans (Aquafaba) to make mousse, meringues, etc rather than throwing it out 😊

Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living It stores well frozen and if it's a bit thick, you can heat it up with water to get it to the right consistency (similar to egg whites).

Hi Jamie :-D I've been watching your channel for about 8 months or better. Sometimes I comment... sometimes I don't, but I ALWAYS click *like* because I like what I see and I have learned from you both :) I have a quick question on the grain grinding wheels. If the black flecks come off in the first grinding, what is to prevent them from coming off in future grindings? What is that material that comes off? Thanks again for another great video! You and Jeremy work together SO well & your daughters are just little sweethearts! :-D

They are stones and seemed to only happen on the first grind. We didn’t see them after. I think the stones just needed broken in

I was wondering how long it took you to grind up all those grains into the flour, I would have liked to have seen all the grinding process! Terrific video, I am learning so much!!

The rice was the most challenging and with 2 of us swapping out it took about 10 min to grind 2 cups rice. Less for the oats
