"I've got a bad feeling about this." -Han Solo

I think that line has been said many times in movies.

Gar Finkle uh, ya THINK?! It's a long-standing Star Wars catchphrase, so OF COURSE... it's almost not a Star Wars movie _unless_ someone says this line. But maybe you're new to Star Wars or movies in general?
Disney shot first.
Kathleen Kennedy: Take these notes and reshoot the scenes. Lord and Miller: You said the film would be left under our supervision! Kathleen Kennedy: I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.

It's more like Kennedy: Hey guys, we really like what you're doing, but do you have to make the characters so likable and interesting? Lord and Miller: What? Don't you want people to like them? Kennedy: Don't question me! Soon you will know the power of the dark side!

Superman 2 fired Richard Donner over budget reasons and 75% was shot.

Superman The Movie and Superman II were shot at the same time. with alot of Superman II shot half in production mind you. Superman The Movie was planned for a summer 78 release in theaters but missed its date because filming took ages. Work on S2 was halted midway and all efforts went into finishing the first film for it to make its now Christmas '78 date (which did eventually happened). Donner's issues with the Salkinds along with disputes working with producer Pierre Spengler causes problem with their ego so when the first film was completed. They then fired Donner and allowed Lester who was working closely with the Salkinds during the filming of both films to become the new director of Superman II. I.E. Donner was fired over silly politics and egotism. Production certainly didn't go massively over budget and the first two films are critically and financially successful on record to this very day! The whole budget reason thing was always a bullsh*t commercial excuse for the media to pick up on. And Lester later on went on to direct Superman III in 1983, now tell me who exactly holds Superman III over the first two Superman movies in terms of quality and vision?

I have a weird film parallel of 'what the hell did you expect?' Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses. As I recall, Universal complained that it was too gory and violent and wouldn't release it. It ended up with Lion's Gate I think? But my point is this; you hired a man named Rob Zombie. To make a movie titled 'House of 1000 Corpses'... in all sincerity, what in the actual $%^& did you expect to get?!?!? You don't even need to read the script to get an idea of what this movie ended up being...
The thing I don't really hear/see anyone mentioning is the fact that Han Solo is a character who is well known, not to mention beloved. He has already been created and fleshed out by George Lucas, Larry Kasdan, and Harrison Ford. If you are doing a young Han Solo movie, he needs to be THAT Han Solo, a few years younger, but still Han Solo. You can't turn him into a comedian cracking jokes or doing pratfalls or being a goof. His humor comes from him being kind of sarcastic and somewhat impetuous at times, but he doesn't crack jokes or act like a goofball. Han is, at the beginning of ANH, selfish, smug, and definitely jaded and hard-core. You have to show him that way. Apparently L&M were taking Han waaaaaay out of character and totally off script, so yeah, as talented as they are, they are not the right directors for a Han Solo movie. Maybe later they would be right for a "young Jar-Jar Binks" movie. I bet they could actually make people like Jar-Jar. :)
Richard Donner being fired from Superman II and replaced by Richard Lester is the most high profile example I can think of. For a bigger movie than that you'd probably have to go back to Spartacus when Kubrick replaced Anthony Mann a week after shooting started. However the most infamous instance has to be when Richard Stanley was fired from The Island of Dr. Moreau and replaced by John Frankenheimer. The documentary about this, entitled Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau, should be compulsory viewing for all filmmakers!
Oh lord! I didn't even knew the Kasdan, Spielberg, Lucas transcript existed! Pure gold! Thanks a lot, guys!

"Hey man i made tusk i have no room to talk" LOL!!!!
If you know how Kasdan does things and how Lorde and Miller does things... and you were content with them having differing styles going into this? AND YOU STILL GET THIS FAR DOWN...Its your fucking fault Lucasfilm. Very dumb leadership in this entire situation.
Loved those Statler and Waldorf impressions at the end
Actually, there are four drafts of the ESB script. The first one was tossed, written be Leigh Brackett. Drafts two and three, which Lucas himself wrote, were what the final ESB script was based on. Lawrence Kasdan wrote draft four which was based off of Lucas' third draft.
I didn't know who was directing this movie. it will all work out.
"It'll probably be awesome." I find it hard to disagree.
Holy shit I need more Kevin and Marc as Statler and Waldorf in my life.
Richard Donner was fired from Superman II in the middle of production on that movie. That is why Richard Lester had to reshoot a ton of scenes cause the DGA says you need to have directed a certain percentage of the movie in order to get direction credit.
Didn't Ron Howard do the last 'DaVinci sequel with Tom Hanks and the "Rogue One" actress????
Kathleen Kennedy: Be careful not to choke on your aspiration... directors
When you guys talked about people who are really looking forward to this movie because of the directors that was me. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I can't wait for Han Solo but one of the reason I was so excited was because of miller and lord but you know I still can't wait for the movie but I am very upset about them not being apart of the project anymore.
if they were taking a more comedic tone, that's the point Hon Solo is the cocky funny guy & I've really always wanted 2 see a star wars comedy
Richard Donner is another director that come to mind that was replaced for Superman II.
I think the word Kevin was looking for in the beginning is "unimpugnable".
my favorite movies of the 1970s 1971 Harold and Maude 1978 The Driver 1977 The Gauntlet 1979 Hardcore 1974 Thunderbolt and Lightfoot 1977 Sorcerer 1975 Rollerball 1972 The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie 1976 Assault on Precinct 13 1974 The Taking of Pelham One Two Three 1977 Suspiria 1972 Fat City 1971 Klute 1972 Deliverance 1973 American Graffiti 1976 Taxi Driver 1975 Three Days Of The Condor 1975 French Connection II 1973 Paper Moon 1975 Night Moves 1974 The Conversation 1971 Straw Dogs 1972 Prime Cut 1971 The French Connection 1970 I Never Sang for My Father 1973 Scarecrow 1971 The Panic in Needle Park 1977 A Bridge Too Far 1972 Last Tango In Paris 1976 Cat on a Hot Tin Roof 1976 Marathon Man 1973 The Merchant of Venice 1972 Sleuth
Maybe Disney / LucasArts thought they could capture lightning twice after Marvel Studios discovered the Russo brothers (who did Arrested Development and Community tv series) with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Every intro should end with Marc saying "Holy Shit!"
I'd honestly feel like you'd be a great director for that film , Kevin!
Kev...Go get that Boba Fett gig, man! That would be awesome!

druff42 Who is driving? Oh my god, bear is driving! How can that beeee!?
It's happened to 5 Pixar films. Toy Story 2 was almost complete and they pretty much started over and completed it in like 9 months or something.
I trust Larry Kasdan but I've lost some confidence in this movie. probably shouldn't have been a movie in the first place tbh
The sound seems off. It is because they are holding mics?
Han Solo should not really be a "funny" character by himself. His actions and his manners can be funny in various situations, but he should be egocentric and greedy. Before A New Hope he should not be seen by everyone like a super likeable person. We the audience should know he have a heart of gold, but he should not be the comic relief of the movie. If that was the vision of the directors, then I understand why they were fired. I also understand the argument of the "SW stories" being made to bring new, fresh visions for Star Wars, but the thing is Lucasfilm is also very regarding about continuity between all the movies. And there is a thin line between bringing different tones to the movies and changing the tone of the characters themselves. (Again, I don't know what was the really problem this time, but there you go)
I love you guys so much. great topic last 6 minutes are gold. also Ron Howard would kill some Star Wars shit love his sci-fi and fantasy takes
Josh Trank was going to direct a Boba Fett standalone movie? is that a scoop??
Reckon Kevin Smith scarier version of Kathleen Kennedy is from New Jersey right! *Kathleen Kennedy:* "Awwww fuck this shit? You guys are FIRED!!!......."
Ron Howard was announced literally while I was watching this lol
Richard Donner was fired from Superman 2
Lmao! Kevin Smith and Marc Bernardin...you funny buggers!! Hahahahaha... Always crack me up!
If there is one film that exemplifies being completely bankrupt of originality and semblance of real creativity it is Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Both Lawrence Kasdan and Kathleen Kennedy were involved in its production. Although most of criticism for that film should be squarely aimed at J.J Abrams. Also, just because they have a good track record and were involved in the production of numerous successful films, such as The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), The Big Chill (1983) and Jurassic Park (1993), doesn't mean they are immune from making ordinary movies and flops. For example, Kennedy has Noises Off (1992), Milk Money (1994), and Congo (1995) as failures in her career. Kasdan has Wyatt Earp (1994), Mumford (1999) and Dreamcatcher (2003) as his failures. Every great screenplay author, director and producer in the history of filmmaking have examples of missteps in their careers. It is just that their successes outweigh their failures. The long winding road that constitutes a lengthy film career is not always paved with gold - or guarantee gold statuettes. Although, I will reserve my judgement of the stand alone Han Solo movie until the trailers have been released, I am alarmed about how the project has got to this stage so deep into production where Kennedy has fired its directors. However, Ron Howard is a perfect replacement as he has directed numerous films that were very entertaining.
Superman 2, Tombstone, gone with the wind, wizard of Oz.... Happens more than you think.
Thanks, Fellers!

Kevin looks baked right now in this video
yall two should team up and take their place as directors
Good news! Ron Howard, the director of "Cocoon", "Willow" and "Apollo 13", is stepping in to direct the "Star Wars: Han Solo" movie. Here's the link to the director: www.starwars.com/news/ron-howard-to-assume-directorial-duties-on-the-untitled-han-solo-film
I was hoping to see a teaser, now i'm just hoping the whole thing doesn't fall apart
best comment i saw online....they had a disagreement on who shot first :D

Did they pawn their old studio? This camera is really making everything look like a greenscreen / blue screen.
Just announced, Ron Howard as director! You guys saw the future!
Kevin Smith should direct. Put Ming Chen in it! "Doctor Solo no more parachutes!"
They were waaayyyyy more than halfway through filming. They'd already been filming for FIVE months, whereas there are 3 WEEKS left of principal photography & then 5 more weeks of reshoots.
Hey Kevin, Lord and Miller should direct Captain Marvel vs Black Adam movie. Their Lego Movie style would work so well with Billy Batson! Hey DC, call these guys today!
Lets not forget about Richard Donner being replaced on Superman II
9:30 hilarious. LOL
"When I first saw that, I was thinking these dudes probably woke up with fucking dead girl or live boy". LOL!!
I can' wait to see Lorde and Miller's Flash film now they have the free time
"Hey, man I made tusk..."
Uh, you're saying this situation is unprecedented but what about Superman II. Donner is fired half-way through production and replaced
Why did Kevin turn into Bubbles around 1:45?
i saw In the Heart of the Sea,it was really good.
They're having Ron Howard to direct the movie
It's exactly as you said. They didn't watch their body of work, hired them based on the lego movie han solo bit and didn't actually review what these guys do and their hit or miss joke style... God... What a tragedy... Could have been the prequel we all were hoping for...
The last time a similar event of a director leaving a movie when it's 80-90% finished, that comes to my mind is probably Richard Donner with Superman 2. That movie had a messy fallout in production because of that. I don't have high hopes for Ron Howard salvaging the mess.
Richard Donner with Superman II

And also the whole; Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist (Paul Schrader's version) Vs the studios earlier; Exorcist: The Beginning under director; Renny Harlin.
If this film must be made. let Kevin direct it.
What is the deal with "Red Cup"? Am I missing somehing?
Basically not since LESTER took over DONNERs Superman II have we ever had this situation before.
Read an article the actor playing Han Solo voiced his concern he was playing Han Solo too much like Ace Ventura...i absolutely agree pulling these two directors if that was the direction.
Is kevin drinking bong water?
I just wish I was cast in one of those films.
RICHARD DONNER was fired half way through filming SUPERMAN II ... another director came in to reshoot parts and "add comedy" to the movie. GENE HACKMAN refused to return for any re-shoots.. There was also an EXORCIST movie that change director and nearly completely reshot the movie AND changed the story Fun stuff!!
patty Jenkins was fired from Thor: the dark world but ended up doing wonder woman lol
Feel like they should make a Tick movie and have Kevin direct and write
All these behind the scenes fun and games will make a great movie one day or at least a tv special...just not a Christmas special.
Loyalty's a bit*h, fu*k creative freedom.
Bad News when even Kevin Smith can't put a positive spin on your Star Wars.
Dude Kevin Smith! Is it true you're directing a Sam and Twitch mini series? Badass if true
Ron Howard is now director
Curious to hear Kevin's take on this news... when those guys were announced, my honest reaction was 'shit, if you want a jokey Star Wars film, call Kevin Smith'... At issue doesn't seem to be the chops of the guys fired, but one of tone... how much comedy is too much for Star Wars? It's a fair question, and I'm not going to pretend to know the answer. They hired comedic directors to make a Star Wars film... then got upset that it was too funny? I'm gonna blame Disney for that one, if it is the case. Granted, I'm not saying going for yuks is the right course for a Han Solo film, I actually think that is a bad idea. But you hired the 21 Jump Street guys, wtf did you expect?
Ron Howard officially announced as the director.
5:56 forever
Marc and Kevin, you should make a movie together. Whatever it is about you'd have all my monies!
Ming the Merciless
Richard Donner Superman II
maybe he'll die in this one too
Hopefully WB scoops them up again for The Flash.
Get Edgar Wright on the horn.
KEVIN!!! PLEASE TELL US THE DONALD GLOVER SECRET IN YOUR HOMECOMING REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did they forget about Richard Donner being fired or am I mistaken?
