Wow man, the leslie sim is revolutionary. Really spinning. And outside of the organ. I got it: that is what makes the organ light. And please hammond: try to get jim alfredson or cory henry as endorser.

Full agreement. When I buy an expensive instrument, I expect that a good designer was at work. I will look for Viscount or a used Hammond.

This is the first Hammond demo that actually hurt my head. I’ll take my Arturia KeyLab61 and IK’s B3X anytime Or I’ll sit home on my ‘67 B-3 and pair of 122’s.

A little lighter .... but my Xk-1 is still kicking ass .... the 4 Sounds shrill to me in this clip.... I like my drawbars on the left anyway .... And I don't know how much better they could have tweaked the onboard Leslie ... because when manually tweaked just right the XK-1 is very scary good ... I'll save my $$$$..... At this point if I really had to pull the trigger, I'd go with the SK-1 Pro ....and get all the layering, etc. Save me from chaining other sound modules together .. Could have REALLY used one of those 30 years ago ....lol...! 😁

@ :21 you mentioned it had a new "virtual" Leslie, but we're actually hearing the real Leslie in this demo.

are they ever going to start producing Leslie studio 12s again? they've been out of stock for years - even before the pandemic they couldn't produce any.

The Xk5 sounds better.

Got to find a way to get rid of the shrillness on the upper end. Sounds shrill even through the Leslie.

I noticed the shrillness too and wondered if the mic was to blame. In any case I would have to play this for a good bit before I’m convinced. A vent with nearly anything sounds good to me. I’m glad Hammond-Suzuki keeps updating their models and I’m looking forward to trying this out.

@@gordonmurphy4321 Perhaps the eq on the treble on the leslie or keyboard was too much and can be dialed back, but I've noticed this on other demos of this model. Strange, as the best thing about it's predecessor, XK1c, is the lack of shrillness when compared with other organ clones.

Um . sounds great, but i wish he was using the sim. instead of that actual Leslie. if the modeling & Leslie sim. are vastly improved, I suspect that IK Multimedia had at some input. Many have managed to achieve the perfect Hammond tone, but IK is only one of 3 companies who've mastered the Leslie sound & the ONLY one allowed to use/license the Hammond/Leslie name (a hint at a partnership?). I only hope they release a joint venture Leslie pedal based on IK's model; it would literally destroy all other hardware contenders & the glorious solo reign of the Nei Ventilator will end. But, this instrument definitely seems to be a step backward physically compared with the available tactile features of the two previous models.

You are correct on the partnership with IK regarding the Hammond B-3X and Leslie Software-but the Digital Leslie (It's not a "Sim"-it's a Digital Leslie) in the XK-4 is onboard and 100% homegrown.

Not sure about this - I’ll stick with my XK1c, which has a less shrill sound to my ears. It could be the eq settings that need tweaking, but surely the real Leslie should make it sound better?

How do you like your XK1C? I just actually got a Yamaha CK61 that has drawbars and rotary and I like it, wondering if the XK1 would be better

@@islandtony5009 The XK1c would certainly be better in my view for Hammond sounds, as it's a specialist board. When paired with a rotary speaker or pedal it sounds great. The downside is that it doesn't do anything else so you'd need a second keyboard for pianos etc. The CK61 seems to be more of a jack of all trades in a portable keyboard, so will be useful for a single keyboard setup and I'm sure the Hammond sounds are fine for most occasions. I use a Yamaha montage for single keyboard gigs and the hammond sounds are fine, but I always miss the XK1c!

If the leslie sim sounds sooooo good, why do they still build real leslies for ridicoulus 7k?

It is being played into that new 122H and is not the internal Leslie. My Crumar Mojo Classic sounds much richer. For $2500 you guys can have it. I have duo Manual. I can duplicate all those sounds on my Classic.

Many reasons, Skeptico! A-B comparos, primarily. Plus, Hammy now owns Leslie so if ya want a Leslie, you can get a Leslie. Or a pair if you're fancy. It always bugged me for the sound to come out 6' away. 2 cabs solves that. _Skippable personal narrative_ Mind you, I may be a tad biased; the best single 24-hour block of my LIFE was when I was a kid working for a piano/organ store and tasked with manning a store for an all night "Moonlight Madness" promotion across the multi store chain. NOBODY came to my store, but they had a B3 + 144 Les. I was as happy as a pig in...slop. Did I play it loud at 3:00 AM in a deserted shopping Center? Yes. Yes, I did. 😂

A real Leslie is a 3D effect. An electronic effect can be great but is typically stereo at best.

With a real Leslie the most clones sound good. Sorry, but he uses the new 122 Leslie. There is no difference between SK Pro and XK4 regarding the organ. That’s marketing. No comments from Hammond about the MTW 2. Robby talks only about new, new and new. That’s what they told them from HS.

Check out the Yamaha CK series - the organ is not as good, but it is a single stage killer board, so well laid out - and under $1500, 29 lbs.

I don’t know the details, but it is a new organ engine from Hammond Suzuki. What’s in the previous xk’s and sk’s is a hybrid modeling and samples, this is pure modeling, so something’s different for sure

A Casio can sound like a decent Hammond emulation when played through a real Leslie.

Nice but remove that tilted screen please or make it flat at least and no colors, black and white is ok.

Wish they kept this in the under $2000 price point. It's too much of a price increase for the audience that opted for the xk-1c.

Not sure it's worth that price, have the guys at Hammond ever played an UHX3? I'd contend even the Mojo still sounds better, and you can buy a dual manual version for that price. Hammond bridged the gap (their older clones were worse than Viscount, Crumar or even Nord's) but it's still not top-notch. And I also suspect the internal Leslie is still far from great (not IK or UHX3-great, at the very least) since this demo didn't showcase it that much at all. With such a great player and a real Leslie, (almost) anything can sound good enough...
