Mit ihrem Debütalbum "Glory To The Brave" waren die Schweden eine der ersten Bands, die sich nach der Grunge-Welle traute, wieder lupenreinen Heavy Metal zu machen und inspirierte damit eine Menge Fans und Musiker.
1993 in Göteborg von Gitarrist Oscar Dronjak und dem damaligen In Flames-Gitarrist Jesper Strömblad gegründet, macht die Band schnell von sich reden, als sie 1996 bei einem wichtigen landesweiten Bandwettbewerb bis ins Halbfinale kommt. 1997 veröffentlicht die Band das eingangs erwähnte Album "Glory To The Brave" und ist dadurch maßgeblich an der europaweiten Renaissance des Heavy Metal beteiligt, der durch Alternative Rock und Nu Metal fast ein Jahrzehnt lang als "uncool" gegolten hat. Das Debüt erntete Kritikerlob und stieg hoch in den Albumcharts verschiedener europäischer Länder ein. Auch die Nachfolgealben der Band erreichten immer wieder hohe Chartpositionen, in Schweden sogar einmal Platz 1.
Hammerfall sind deutlich vom Heavy Metal der 1980er beeinflusst, also von Bands wie Helloween, Judas Priest, Manowar oder Accept. Genretypisch sind die Gitarrensoli, der Gebrauch von Double Bass am Schlagzeug und der hohe Klargesang von Sänger Joacim Cans. Von der Urbesetzung des Quintetts ist heute nur noch Oscar Dronjak übrig. Ihrem Sound ist die Band aber trotzdem durchgehend treu geblieben.

Hammerfall are one of the bands of my youth, i had 20 years old. Since then i've been into many many other bands, but everytime i listen to them i smile as i remember to those great times.
One of the most underrated bands of heavy speed/power metal. They are so great on the stage and have a great discography.

i think you have lived under a rock the past years. Hammerfall are Big as always and better then ever. even after stefan left. some might dislike how pontus performs the classic solos. but still he is great, and gave the band an uniqe style which the band needed.

@@csch92 Facts, I have seen them many times in my city and there are no more than 300 persons in the place.. very small audience when they are not in a festival.

@dr_xabaras Actually, I can't stand Sabaton. For me, it sounds super generic power metal. Hammerfall it's not my favorite power metal band, but they are definitely better than Sabaton.

what I love about HammerFall is that even though they are a hugely successful band, lots of hits and very good music, they still feel like your buddy's band from highschool, still trying to make it big. They're the most relatable metal lords, I feel. IMHO

Si, es verdad, pero no era su publico. Si vas a un concierto de ellos en una sala la gente se mueve mucho más. No tanto como en latinoamerica pero eso ya es una exageración jajaja. No se escucha al grupo tocar ni cantar, sino solamente al publico. Y si vas a ver a un grupo no normal es que se escuche al grupo, por lo menos para mi. Aqui en España cuando toca AVALANCH no se escucha al cantante cantar sino al publico y es una lastima porque el cantante tiene una voz muy buena que uno quiero oir, pero es lo que hay. Ni tan apagados como en Alemania ni tan locos como en latino america, sería lo perfecto. Un saludoo

@@samsmith3025 The most Dreamland I've got attending their gigs in the last 15-20 years is the opening solo a few tours ago when they did the "Legacy of Kings medley" instrumental song. Quite the disappointment as it was my favorite Hammerfall song back in the day when I first knew them.
