Hammer Throw Turning Drill - Hammer Throw Technique

Tristan Schwandke Hammer Throw Turning Drill - Hammer Throw Technique
You always wondering why it is so difficult to increase your throwing performance? Then it might be the case that your feeling for the hammer is not comfortable or you haven't focused on that yet.
Sure, hammer throw is on one side weight training on the other side athletic training. The aim in hammer throw is always the same - increasing velocity of the hammer in each turn. Sounds simple, or?!
It sounds so simple that many hammer thrower despair that their performance is not further increasing. That's the reason why the discipline hammer throw belongs to one of the most difficult disciplines in track and field.
What is the reason why hammer throw is so difficult? It is the complexity of the movement sequences. The transition from the swing into the first turn and from that point keeping a stable position while centrifugal force is increasing more and more.
Because of the long radius from your arms and wire to the hammer ball, this force is enormous. But now to generate maximum velocity it is not only important to have much power. The crucial point is to supply a high degree of efficiency. I always compare it with a motor in your car.
The motor is your body, which you can train to generate more power. The throwing technique is the gear to transfer the power of your body on the hammer. Is the technique on a high level and hence the gear has a high degree of efficiency your power will be optimally transmitted.
To reach maximum force transmission or better said the high degree of efficiency of your throwing technique, you must develop your feeling for the hammer and always questioning yourself - feels it comfortable or not?
Following exercises should help you to learn how to train this feeling and how to implement it in your throwing.

What is the purpose of this drill? If every turn has your upper body bent over at 270 and every landing of right foot is heel toe, and the athlete is physically looking down the entire time... There are a great many negative positions in this drill. The reason for this drill had to be quite specific, to accept these technical flaws......please explain purpose and experience level for this drill

Hi, this exercise should help you to stay in position over a long time and to feel your body going with your hammer simultaneously. Additionally it leads to a relaxed position of your arms. The upper body in forward position is another variant of throwing. For example some Belarusian throwers are throwing in forward position. But you also can do this exercise in upright posture.

why do athlets throw it up, they should throw it straight. it does not matter how high it gets, but how FAR it goes!...

If you're trying to throw it far, you want it to be in the air for a long time so it has more time to travel. In a vacuum, 45 degrees would be optimal, so with air you probably want to shoot for something just under this (~42 degrees).
