Hammer Mill Corn Grinder

Powered by our 1947 M John Deere the 1940's(?) David Bradley Hammer Mill made by Sears and Roebuck is doing a great job getting the corn grinded up into feed. We will show you how to set it up and change the screens to get different sizes of ground corn.

I grew up with a tractor just like that on our farm! Used it for many decades; it would pull a bailer, but my dad soon got a second, newer and larger one for bailing. This brought back many memories.

It was wonderful to see this. My Dad had the JD-M and hammer mill also. He'd grind corn for his hogs and cows. The sounds and sights in this video stirred many old memories. The tractor and mill still lay at rest now here in our sheds and barns. Dad has gone on to his final rest.

This was a Saturday morning job for us growing up. 520 John Deere pulling a John Deere grinder. We used the ground corn for steers and our milk cow. We ground ear corn from our cribs. Fussed doing it then. But Oh how nice it would be to go back and do it again it Dad and little brothers.

My Dad had a hammer mill, he used it more to chop the refuse in the garden to break it down for compost. My Uncle used his to crack corn to make hog and cattle feed.

Do you make any corn meal for your own cooking? We have problems with ours molding after it is ground. Corn is dry (stores well as a whole kernel) but we have to keep it in the freezer to keep it from molding after it is ground.

I think what it does is pull moisture from the air. You can use those little moisture absorbing packs that come in things you buy to help. Yes we put bulk stuff in the freezer. Thanks and blessings

We're having trouble with our dB hammer mill, it turns the corner to dust fine mill, we need cracked corn, we think the fan that's in the blower is the wrong one, can you show me what they are supposed to look like?

We have had the blower get stopped up which causes a problem. At the first of the video it shows you the different sizes of screens. We use the biggest one which turns it into cracked and meal. Is your screen like ours?

I have a Fairbanks-Morse model 40 that is almost identical to yours. It's been sitting for about 40 years untouched and I am about to restore it. The only thing I'm missing is the various screens/plates. Any chance you know where I can find replacements?
