You’ve got a unique way of explaining everything with clarity and conciseness! Just like the tools you use, you appreciate them ‘getting to the point’ and doing what you intended them to do without wasting time. No doubt there are young folks (maybe some older ones, too) who are taking your teaching and using it to advance their career by success. I have a Bosch 1194AVSRK 8 Amp 1/2-Inch Hammer Drill that I purchased in 2009 for my father's small construction company. After one of his workmen somehow managed to break the chuck, it was put back in the case for about 5 years after which I decided to take it over, clean it up and replace the chuck. Since then I have used it to bore holes in a concrete block wall to hang a cast iron garden hose holder, drive sheet screws in a shed roof, bore the holes for the bolts in my Crabwood (a local hardwood) work bench, and drill new holes in concrete walls to replace sun damaged PVC brackets with aluminium ones for holding the down-pipes from the roof of my home. It is truly a versatile piece of equipment that I would not trade for any other type of corded drill.

ive got a sds drill for concrete drilling at work after watching these sds drill videos. Too often i avoided concrete work. Now i do it alot more often. thanks for informational videos 👍

This video was everything I needed. I was trying to drill holes above my fireplace to wall mount a TV and my drill was not penetrating at all. Loved the detailed and thorough explanation especially the materials each tool is good for. Time to get a hammer drill. Thanks dude.

Thank u for all your great advice...I have no clue about tools and I just got a job as a cashier at a tool place....eventhough I'm just a cashier, our jobs are very involved with customers questions/problems... So the knowledge we need to know about the tools we sell to help our customers who have no clue is very important...so even as a cashier I still need to know about a lot of tools and how they work and you are the MAN that explains things in great detail and doesn't leave simple things out for us beginners that have no clue or dnt know where to start... and I love how u compare things like the drill vs the hammer drill so we know the difference and I can share this knowledge w the customers at my store...can't thank u enough for the hard work u put into these videos !!!!!!! 👏👏👏hope u have stuff about sockets and compressors lol

Great Video Thank You. Never forget helping my Dad on a job 30yrs ago installing wooden columns he made in a lobby of a office building. We set everything up & were gonna use corded drills to fasten the columns into marble. Just 1 try with the drills & he looked @ me & said "we gotta get a hammer drill!" We wound up driving around NJ (we are from NYC) looking for a hardware store( pre Home Depot)

This is a good explanation, and the best part of the video is the explanation of SDS mechanism. I have to drill a few holes in concreate soon, and i bought a power drill with hammering action. Will see how good it will be as it's the first time doing this.

SDS rotary hammers are definitely the way to go if you’re drilling lots of holes or boring large holes in masonry or concrete. But in my experience standard hammer drill/drivers are fine for smaller jobs like setting tap-cons in masonry. If you’re using them professionally you’ll probably end up needing both tools eventually.

Great information, I learned a lot

My Dad had an old Hitachi hammer drill which used those SDS bits and chisels. Was an absolute beast that could handle any home project. The chuck mechanism failed though. I now use a smaller Bosch corded drill with a hammer function and while it's not in the same league, it does the job for the small amount of masonry drilling I have to do. I think for the DIY'er the key is corded. A corded drill with hammer action from a good manufacturer is probably all you'll need. Just forget drilling concrete with battery tools!

Always great content. Much appreciated. Just a thought: Somebody this careful and handy could easily make some sound insulation panels and make the “studio” far less prone to echo/reverb. With 500k subs it might be time to take the AV to the next level.

Correct! We Tried to use a regular drill on a 4 inch newly constructed concrete porch--- took about 5-7 mins to get a 2 inch hole drilled (only 6 of 72 holes were drilled that day). We Stopped the project-. Tomorrow, 12/15/21, we will use the hammer drill we rented today- stay tuned. By the way, Thank You for explaining everything

I have to comment. I have minimal carpentry skills. I've taken an online course threw Ashworth and it was o.k. The problem is trying to retain what you learn from reading and thinking without real world experience..doesnt always work well. I really dig these videos from the perspecitve of a video editor and as someone who's trying to reinforce carpentry in my mind. It's rare to find someone at lowes who can explain this stuff and they get paid to work retail. Guess it's best to learn from the pros! Thanks again for posting. This channel is amazing!

OK so your video just saved me a bundle. I was trying to drill holes in my basement floor with my cordless drill to attach a threshold. I went through multiple bits with very limited success. After watching your video I went downstairs and grabbed my 1/2 inch hammer drill. WoW this was like magic. Even the bits I thought were spent ate through the concrete. The only regret I have is that I didn't see your video 4 concrete bits ago. Thanks so much.

I work as a carpenter in maintenance at a state institution. We have to drill into a lot of masonry walls. We have used Craftsman, Dewalt, and Makita cordless hammer drills and I think Makita is the best.

Yeah, that's my experience, too. Cordless hammer drills are just bigger drills, that could also be used for masonry, in a pinch. Rotary hammers are what you need if you actually intend to bore holes in masonry with any regulatory.
