Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a WRRS mechanical bell, a GRS gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x20 inch lights with Leotek EV Series LEDs, a GRS gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching the southbound NS mixed freight, I went up to Tyler Street #2 to see about getting that crossing recorded. However, it seems it was CSX's turn to run trains through Dalton, as, after about half an hour of waiting, I heard a southbound approaching on the CSX W&A Subdivision. As such, I quickly raced down to this crossing, and was thankfully able to get set-up with a bit of time to spare. This train turned-out to be a southbound mixed freight with a pair of ES40DCs for power and a cut of intermodal on the end of it.
This crossing is another rather nice one, featuring some nice older L&N-era equipment at it. It appears that these signals were originally installed by the L&N back in the late-70s, reusing the WRRS mechanical bell from an older pair of signals that'd apparently existed here before. These signals remained largely unchanged until sometime in about the mid-2000s, when CSX upgraded the overhead lights here to LED with some Dialight Ball LEDs. These signals then remained unchanged for over a decade, until early-2022 when CSX did an LED upgrade to the W&A Sub. At this time, the original MI 8 inch lights here were all replaced with the current WCH 12x24 inch lights & Leotek EV Series LEDs, while the overhead lights had their Dialight Ball LEDs replaced with more Leotek EV Series LEDs. Since then, however, no major changes have occurred to this crossing, thankfully.
Despite being somewhat modernized, this crossing still retains a good bit of nice older equipment at it. The old L&N-era WCH cantilever, GRS gate mechs, and WRRS mechanical bell are all still around, which is great to see. Sadly, the WRRS bell does ring a bit unevenly, speeding up and then slowing down as it rings, but does still make a nice sound while ringing. It's also nice to see that the original overhead lights on the cantilever are still here as well, even if they are LED these days. All in all, this is a great crossing and I hope the equipment here's able to remain largely unchanged for many more years to come, with the WRRS bell here getting some needed TLC.

Great crossing and catch! It’s nice that much of the original equipment survives here, the crossing looks good with the mixture of old and new equipment :)

Great crossing! Seeing L&N installs like this is always nice, even if it’s LED now. Love that WRRS bell too!

Love those late 1970s L&N signals. Even with the LED upgrade, still great to see most of the original equipment still in service David.
