Exactly. There's this little thing called "poetic license" which gives a writer a little wiggle room on accuracy to help the story move along and keep 21st century audiences intrigued. Cuz face it, courting in the 1700s was boring

Not to mention actual history books are not “historically accurate”. They’re a rough reconstruction of events based on available artifacts, filtered through the biases and assumptions of the authors. Some of it is accurate, some of it isn’t.

A musical isn't meant to be historically accurate. Yes, there is some historical truth in this musical but some facts are changed for entertainment value.

@@moni23me Not even just the voice, the song itself and her acting and how when a Disney Princess is awestruck (or a male character sometimes) they think they’ve immediately found the one, and the first words she sings is ‘I do, I do, I do’ like she already decided she wants to marry him. It’s a cute song overall matched with Eliza’s innocence. A seasoned ‘I’m in love’ Disney Princess song in my eyes. ✨

Phillipa Soo is a STAR! To think she was shy of 26 in this clip is insane to me. I absolutely love her voice and her vocal techniques are marvelous. THOSE RIFFS!!! Also, because of her I got so obsessed with the real Eliza that after I watched the musical I did SOME research. Betsey was so lovable right away (there are literal letters of people saying that) and poised, which is one thing that drew me into Phillipa’s performance as soon as I saw her. For me, hamilton is all about Eliza

This whole cast is incredible of course. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel that phillipa is the only one who sort of became synonymous with her character in my head. I mean, I sometimes accidentally use phillipa Su and Eliza interchangeably. She just gives this character so much life, whether it’s in helpless or in burn. Also, every one of her riffs leave me completely helpless Can you react to that would be enough? It’s the most underrated song in the whole musical in my opinion

Watching this again, I'm also impressed all over again by how well the story of the song is told with the direction and choreography. It could easily get muddied with so much information, the number characters to see to as well the legitimate "swirl of excitement" that also needs to be conveyed. And like you said, it *also* needs to set her up for Act II but *also* needs to plant just a few seeds for Angelica's Satisfied. Terrific direction.

Saw a historian react to Hamilton too, and he said that Eliza was very devoted and did anything for Hamilton even if she didn't always agree with him. And I can see how you're super into all the attention someone gives you at the start of a relationship as well, but apparently Eliza didn't actually like to write, she wasn't as good at it as Hamilton and he wrote looong letter all the time which it seems she got a bit sick of haha

So something I just noticed recently with this number is the flip in Hamilton’s situation. When Hamilton has “nothing” in the first act Peggy confides in him, Angelica ‘tried to take a bite of him’, and Eliza feels helplessly in love with him. In other words he’s gaining the family he lost as a child. In the second act, Hamilton has gained his fortune, fame, and success. Mrs. Reynolds (played by the same actress as Peggy) “confides” in him, resulting in Angelica ‘taking a bite of him’ and Eliza feeling helpless in his betrayal. He’s gained everything and in that lost everything. It’s very clever if intentional

Time for a suuuuper random query: what are your thoughts on "seasonal" musicals like Sweeney Todd, that really only play much or get a lot of air time during the associated holiday? I'm sure there's Christmas themed shows as well, etc.

This is probably the most 90s pop hit kinda song in the show. Its like Paula DeAndas song "Remember Me". Honestly the whole show is a nod to 90s hip/hop but that's besides the point. This song is most easily transferred as is to a normal 3min pop song. Not my fav of the entire show but shes precious and with someone who has a lack of melanin like myself she keeps up very well. Yes I'm also aware she's half Chinese

It feels like your passion for whisky is almost as great as your passion for musical theatre. I don't drink BUT if your going to be doing reaction vids - Im in! Where can I get a bottle of peanut whisky in the UK anyone? The only place I found is £100 a bottle!
