Ham Radio Portable Satellite Tracking System WRAPS- EP5 The Moment of Truth !

The moment of truth ! We fire the system up and successfully track a satellite. I wanted make this video to show some basic setting of the Xbee, SatPC32 and the WRAPS board. WoW that thing is awesome, the live tracking AZ and EL matched exactlly what SatPC and the phone app were showing on the screen. Very impressed with the system, all the parts came together nicely. Everything is very precise and the finished box feels rugged, very tight.
This is the fifth of a series of videos to document my WRAPS satellite tracking project built per Mark Spencer's "WRAPS: A Portable Satellite Antenna Rotator System" article published on Jan 2014 QST magazine.

Thanks for the information on programming the XBee modules. Mark Spencer's article was a bit light on this. The Electronics are done. The mechanical part is done. Now to finish the assembly. 73 F4WBJ

Thank you so much for sharing. I've been licensed since 69 almost exclusively working HF til about 15 years ago when we moved to a neighborhood with antenna restrictions so I was exploring maybe getting into satellite radio. I know nothing about it, your video was very educational. WA5ZVE

Hi! Believe it or not, I got lucky and found the tripod for $10 at the local Good Will (thrift store). Is really heavy duty, doesn't look like a camera tripod, I'm thinking it came from a surveyor / measuring equipment. 73s WK

Hola. The parts and vendors were listed on the QST article. Probably the most challenging part of the entire project was coming up with the parts list, the vendors and then placing the orders online. I suggest that you get the parts for the two antenna version versus the single antenna.
