You should definitely consider doing more repair work in your videos , you make by far the best electronics repair videos for the intermediate person looking to further their learning in electronics, better than Shango066, Mr Carlson's lab or other electronics channels that I found, you actually take the time to explain what you're doing why you're doing it, so people that are want to learn can understand it. Great job 👍

Thanks very much for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed my video and humbled to think you'd consider my video on par with some of the best repair techs on You Tube. I really wish I was as smart as those guys but I do my best to learn from their example

Someone obviously has been in that 440 before attempting to fix the attenuation circuit based on the scratching all around where w2 jumper was. Why on earth they installed a resistor there is questionable. But that was a resistor they installed, that was not an inductor. Good video and well explained troubleshooting tips. I use to repair all the older Kenwood hf radios in the 90's. Worked on the ts-510,520,530,120,130,430,440,450,820,830,930,940, 90's model's Yaesu, older Icom gear. Had full test bench. Eyes are old now and stopped doing it but I really enjoyed working on them all. Keep up the videos, it really brings back memories of my repair days.

Great fix!! My Kenwood 440S had the dot issue and so far I have been able to fix all but two bands. I had to order a component from China, which I finally got, but I have not opened it back up to put the component in the circuit. Someone else had removed all the old glue out of it, but the components had already been damaged by it. It works great with all the bands I have been able to bring back. Videos like this is so nice to find to help repair these great radios. Thanks for sharing. Juddie - WD8WV

Repair help by means of a circuit tester. The Huntron 1000 or equivalent is just super. It can measure circuitry even without desoldering. Also use microscope visual inspection to see if something is burned. Use a 10:1 oscilloscope probe connected to your spectrum analyser and measure the signal path. Search the net for common faults of the DUT. GL 73 de Bjoern.

I like the way you explain things, I recently purchased a Ts 440 to fix up it's not working at present, but I have some things that need taken care of first cleaning the gule stuff off the RF board, I am also going to install a AT unit that will be here soon. Marry Christmas

My technical ability starts and stops at the power cord. I did, how ever, just put a new control board in my Astron 35M. Mine was about a year old and started having crow bar fits. I took it off line and put it in the basement for 4 years. Finally did some research, and was able to get the entire board from astron for 29 bucks. Have done some variable load testing with lights, and flashing lights to mimic SSB voice peaks. Its run an hour or so under those test conditions and the voltage is within .02 volts of stable. Have not dared to put it on the radios yet, but I think I have tested it enough.

That is not a choke , it is or was a 4.7 ohm resistor

I suppose it could be a resistor but not sure why it would be needed. My assumption was an EMI choke but I could be wrong
