    Nice set up. I’d like to find a very simple dash cam that comes with a secondary camera that I can use intermittently on the back of my truck camper. I don’t want a permanent camera back there, but I’d love to have a removable one. Happy trails! Hope you’re enjoying the SW and avoiding all the crazy weather 👍🏼

    Funny but that is exactly what I want to! As I also have a truck camper but don’t want the hassle of hardwiring anything in, want it simple, want it easily removable but also want to be able to easily transfer images off the cam without having to hook up a pc etc to do it and thats all i know, i need a feature list explained so I can figure out what I don’t know, lol. 🍻

    Haloview does make magnetic mounts for the rear cameras and has a rechargeable battery pack for powering it. www.haloview.com/haloview-smart-battery-pack.html?acc=413 The drawback is their dash cam is huge compared to regular dash cams. This is the first one I've seen them offer. It's quite large on the window.

    @@SpykersB We are “keep it simple” twins! I have seen some that are mounted on the license plate frame, which would work for me as my plate is about chest high when I stand behind my truck/camper combo. It was rechargeable via USB, but didn’t have a dash cam, per se. Just a screen that displayed the view from the rear camera. It’s wasn’t a high quality image, but I’m fine with that. I just need the basics. If you find one that has both front and rear removable cameras, give me a heads up! ✌🏼

    This has some very nice features. I really like the aspect ratio of the screen; like a wide rear-view mirror. The beginning of this shows a truck and trailer, but I have no idea how close those are, so I wish you would have walked outside to show a visual of the distance. My RV has a rear camera, but apparent resolution of the BT12 and clarity is far superior to mine. However unless there is a utube presentation issue, I still could not read the license plate of a vehicle coming up along side and passing you, which would be a distance of 15 to 20 feet in daylight. And don't apologize for being "picky" - I would like to know the picky items because it helps me know closely a product matches my needs. Nice review. Also, if Haloview is monitoring this review, it would be really nice to be able to select cable connection lengths for different applications/customers, or let me know what is required so I can buy that cable separately at the same time as acquiring the unit; their website does not include it in their specifications. And because I would install in a Class A, offering a cable to the rear camera to avoid transmission issues would be a very nice option. I would snake the cable along the same path that other wires take.

    The truck and trailer behind me are about 100 feet away. These cameras much like most dash cams on the market use a small very wide angle lens to achieve a wide coverage field of view, 120 - 140 degrees on average. Handy when on multilane freeways as you can see all the lanes behind and also very close to the back of the RV. The trade off is objects will appear further away than they are and be smaller than what your eye would see. Like the the convex blind spot mirrors used on the sides of vehicles. So, don't expect to be able to read and license plates as zooming in to see them would make for too much pixilation and there is also motion blur of the moving video. Do to physics you can't have a lens that covers 120-140 degrees field of view and still be able to see small lettering at any distance. That requires a telephoto lens. License plate reading dash cams like the police use have multiple lenses to accomplish it. One is a telephoto to view at a distance straight ahead or behind. But the field of view is very narrow. It's like if someone takes a picture of a small bird in a tree at a distance with a smartphone vs. a 20X optical long zoom regulars camera lens. The smartphone shows a tiny fuzzy bird-shaped thing, and 20X zoom fills the frame with a detailed look at the bird. :) Cheers, Ray

    @@LoveYourRV Thanks for the response. I understand what you are saying. I don't have a GoPro, but I understand that their lens might be one that has a multiple "lens length" concept where the central area is less fish-eye, but the edges are more, to obtain that wider view without making the center images look too "small" or distorted. Then there is stabilization technology that is exploding in the cell phone market and other hand-held cameras. Stabilization alone might create a clearer image. I guess its a matter of time before the concepts trickle down to dash cams, just as higher resolution has.

    Great review. Do you know if the rear trailer camera has a wide enough angle to be able to see the bumper and the traffic behind you at the same time? Also, at night, can you see the cars behind you well without the spotlight on?

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks. :) It has 120 degrees angle of view and several adjustable positions up and down. So you could point if down enough and maybe see the bumper. I like to have mine up a bit so I can see further behind me down the road. It's not very good a night in the dark, mostly all you see is bright vehicle head lights unless in a well lit city. You would never want to drive with the the spotlight it is super bright so you would really annoy anyone behind you. :)

    Thanks Ray, very helpful. I want to set up similarly. You mentioned you used an extension cable to reach the rear camera-what type, size, cable/connectors should I search for?

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    Жыл бұрын

    I don't' see the 3.5M extension cable on their accessory page but its a standard 4 pin used for dashcams. You could contact Haloview and they would likely send the right cable to extend the dashcam if needed. I just happened to have one kicking around from previous reviews In the BT12 kit there is a thicker 4 pin cable that can carry more amperage to run the display but the dashcam doesn't need much amperage so any 4 pin dash cam cable should work. Example: something like this amzn.to/3Brkhqz Just don't mix then up as the display needs the higher amperage cable. Cheers, Ray

    Thanks Ray, another great review! I’d like to know a couple more details. Does the monitor itself reflect well enough to use as a rear view mirror if it’s turned off and you’re not towing? It would be a pain to have to remove it every time you want to drive around unhitched. Also, do you know if there could be any interference between this and a TPMS system? I like the fact that you can pair the GPS from your phone to the monitor so you don’t clutter up the dash with monitors. I use a TPMS system that uses my phone as a monitor, so it seems like that could be displayed on this as well. Keep sharing this quality content! Have fun, and safe travels!

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    No, the display has a matte type finish to it that is designed to be none-reflective since it is also intended to be used on the dash or attached to the window via a suction cup mount. That's one reason I used the dashcam as a rear truck window cam versus a forward-facing dash cam. My previous Haloview displays, I also mirror mounted, and it was a pain to have to remove all the time but worth it to me, as it kept it up out of the way and a natural place to look to. I observed no interference with my wireless TPMS. Not sure if your TPMS app would work with it or not. I think the apps have to be compatible with Android Auto or CarPlay. I don't know for sure about Apple CarPlay but with Android only a very limited amount of apps were there to choose from. Cheers, Ray

    Thanks Ray.....Do you know if this Haloview System supports firmware updates?.....and do you recommend this over the BT7?....Is there things that you like about that one that are better?

  • @LoveYourRV

    @LoveYourRV

    Жыл бұрын

    I haven't seen any references to a firmware update so I guess not. I was using and liked the BT7 system performance but have switched to the BT12 as the system I use now primarily because of the different shaped wide display that fits much better on the pickup truck mirror. I give up having the side cameras but with my large Ram truck flip up tow mirrors the side cams weren't really needed that much. In normal travel I don't have side blind spots. Only during a blindside back-in did I really use one. For side view recordings I have a dash cam system with cameras on my truck. Cheers, Ray

    Yes here was the install video kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4SA2sureKTVlc4.html if you missed it. This model didn't come with Velcro, just the elastic, so I used some I had from a previous Haloview system kzread.info/dash/bejne/eJecmdyOgNSXpZs.html I told Haloview that they should include them with the BT12 as well, but it's likely easy to find some that will work.

    Could be wrong, but I don't believe this system records/plays sound from the rear camera. I don't see any option for that. The recordings I've tested, both the dashcam and rear cam video clips, have sound from inside the cab via a mic on display. That mic can be turned on or off.

    The rear camera is the same model camera provided with the BT7 system and it can do audio when used with the BT7 display but I think due to the BT12 display having its own mic and voice command they don't utilize the audio of the rear cam. At least that's what I figure is going on. :)
