When I was a kid in Scotland many moons ago, we carved turnips and made lanterns and dressed up and went round the doors and we would say “ The sky is blue, the grass is green, what can I have for Halloween”. We then had to say a poem or sing a song or something then we would be given some fruit and nuts, eventually people gave sweets. I no longer live in the uk and trick or treating isn’t really done. There are the few odd events from the different ex pat communities but it’s not like the happy memories I have as a kid.

Kevin, my friend, I LOVED this video! I’d heard the names of many people buried there and had even heard about Seth-but I’d had no idea how important he was to not only Deadwood, but to the world (many times over) for urging his friend, President Roosevelt to place “forever wild” on Yellowstone Park! Been there several times and you KNOW some money-hungry “businessmen” would’ve taken the park to its knees and killed off as many animals as they possibly could! My late husband Gary and I belonged to an “authentic” 1880’s group of reenactment years. ALL clothing, weaponry, cooking utensils-everything! A few of us even wore custom fitted whale-bone corsets (sourced from seller who collected them for this reason, when the bones were gone, they switched to metal. I can tell you the bone was MUCH more comfortable to wear thru days of performances all over the state of Arizona! ❤️🐈

I've been in the woods in the middle of a camping trip/medical emergency with my boyfriend. I heard the voices of women singing beautifully and wordlessly, vocals like you might hear in Pink Floyd or Fleetwood Mac. It was very weird and lovely and welcome at a time like that. I'm not sure if it was hallucinatory nonsense straight from my own head, spirits, or real live human women busy with band practice somewhere in the neighboring houses. If it's the last one, thank you, you unseen and distant ladies, for making an anxious, adrenalin-filled evening much, much better than it could have been. Carry on, and find the success you deserve.

@@seeyouanon2931 This was at least three or at most four women, and they did not say anything intelligible. They were mostly just going 'ooh' in a call-and-response fashion. It was eerie and lovely, the furthest you could get from being threatening, EXTREMELY welcome at a time like that, and made an anxious situation a lot more pleasant than it otherwise would have been, at least for me. Nobody else noticed any of it. Perhaps they were real human women rehearsing? If so, I thank them for it.

Dave Allen at large told the story about Jack walking home drunk one night and he wandered across a guy fixing his car. He said are you all right mate? The guy said yeah. piston broke. Jack said yeah, .......soooam I mate. I remember Halloween 61 years ago, It was this painful crushing feeling, warm and dark and slimy. It went on for hours then on 1 November a bloody doctor grabbed me by the feet and dragged me out into the bright light. It was cold and he smacked my arse and it has been hell erver since.

This is probably one of the most unusual comments you'll have ever gotten but, it's just that I do need to thank you because you truly have helped me, so just hear it out. Recently me and my girlfriend have been having a strained relationship, and unfortunately it's long distance(we're both 16, she's British, im a Russian immigrant to the US) so, I'm assuming she's either moved on to someone else in this time or is getting bored of me. It's been making me really depressed and down lately, so much so that I can't seem to focus on much but, I like history and it seems like your videos are some of the only things that are engaging and interesting enough to keep me focused and keep my mind off of those aforementioned things going on in my life, and I'm learning from it along the way. It sucks because Halloween was our favorite holiday together so unless things get better, this one is gonna hurt, but again, thank you for putting out this video that can take my mind off of it. You truly are an amazing historian and storyteller, Kevin :) Thank you for your videos and your service as a soldier and police officer in the past.

I've had to pull some channel up on their facts before, but this channel is always 100% accurate and grounded. With real stores and a humanistic approach. Some people say they don't believe in ghosts, but 'God/Spirits doesn't care if you don't believe in them' because it's not up to us to decide. Enough evidence stacks up.

Yup, Samhain is pronounced "SOW-en". When the veil between the worlds is thinnest. My tradition puts out a "Dumb Supper" for our dear departed. To honor my much beloved grandfather (Papa), I would usually put out a dish of creamed herring, maybe a glass of his favorite whiskey and a box of Tiparillos' (he only smoked those because they were slender and had a plastic tip). He always had the scent of cigars and whiskey about him which was not unpleasant to me.

You have a very engaging narrative voice that must have grown out of years of experience. Also, you always notice the particularly human characteristics of an event or place and I appreciate that.

Thank you for your teaching of the history of Halloween. The most interesting I've ever heard! I didn't imagine that your ghost stories would actually be stories of ghost experiences you've had.👻 So cool!
