Definitely. Shoving the two characters we cared about (Michael and Laurie) into the background until the last 10 minutes for some self-insert OC or whatever who then dies 3/4 through the movie and thus has zero reason to be there and no impact on the whole... in the end, we had an old man who got beaten by a guy who got beaten up by marching band nerds vs. an old lady who barely was in the last two movies. Sidelining Laurie for kills was ok since it was expected she'd do lots of shit in ends, but this stupid movie made kills worse in retrospect.

@@youtube-kit9450 Bruh what, Corey definitely had an impact on the story. 1) He’s there to continue the whole idea of this trilogy which is the “infection” of evil that Michael inflicts. We see in 2018 with Dr. Sartain and it’s hinted that it has also infected Laurie, and we see it in Kills when it infects the whole town and especially Tommy and Brackett and drives them to do evil things. 2) He serves as a way to pull Michael to Laurie. The whole idea of this trilogy is that Michael doesn’t really care about Laurie, but it wouldn’t at all be a satisfactory conclusion to a trilogy ABOUT Laurie to not even include Laurie. 3) Corey serves as a way for Michael’s legacy to continue on despite the fact that he’s been so weakened by the events of 2018 and Kills that he’s gonna have a hard time fending for himself.

I wouldn't mind Cory as a character and then maybe, he becoming the "new" Michael Myers. But it's funny how they introduced a whole new character in the supposedly LAST movie, and they kinda did anything with him because it didn't matter. If they introduced him in the first one somehow, and make him an escential part of the trilogy would have had a lot more sense. It's a shame because I think Laurie became almost like a supporting character.

Honestly I think the opening of ends with corey babysitting should’ve been the post credit scene of Halloween kills. Then the beginning of Ends starts off with the whole town hating corey. And corey wanting to clear his name wants to say Michael killed the kid and not him. Then to further clear his name Corey pretends to be Michael myers and kills a couple of people for the first third maybe half of the movie. Creating another town hysteria. And since they basically elude to Michael having supernatural powers this hysteria heals Michael. Then someone chases corey into the sewers where he runs into the real Michael and Michael supposedly kills corey. Then the rest of the movie is Michael doing his thing. Then if they wanted to set up corey being the new killer they could have a post credit scene or whatever where Corey survives and then that can leave the door open to future films where they use corey. I liked that they wanted to try something new but they should have set it up and they definitely should not have made michael a cameo in not only his last film. But the LAST time Michael and Laurie will ever face off. Interesting idea. Horrible execution.

I think something to note about Corey getting "bullied" by band kids, is that, to the town, Corey is a "kid killer". Imagine how it would look if Corey fought back or gave these kids any kind of intimidation. Then, it would confirm what everyonee is saying Corey being a monster. Obviously as the audience we know that the kids started it, but to the rest of the town they would see an adult man fighting a bunch of kids.

  • @nikkis.2066

Plus Corey has REPEATEDLY said how he wanted to move on and have things be like they used to be..happy, bright future, college etc and he doesn't have that now because of the accident and is repeatedly bullied and houdne day the town. Even the gas store owner is rude to him, staring at him and rushing him to buy something and get out. It's utterly frustrating how people just miss the subtext and refuse to read between the lines or connect the dots. Corey doesn't want to fight back or be a problem....then Laurie gives him some confidence and tries to stand up for himself and he gets thrown off a bridge. Then when he faces Michael Myers, everything changes. Like it's all laid out in this film as to why Corey is the way he is...but nobody wants to give the movie the credit it deserves and just nitpick and complain about it.

A flashback scene to 2018 (during Halloween Ends) showing Corey being bullied in High School (same school Allyson goes to) and Allyson maybe coming to his rescue or maybe helping him up after an attack would have been a good introduction that they at least knew each other before Ends. Could have happened when Allyson was bandaging his hand and maybe mentioning the incident that she thinks Corey may have forgotten but then he reveals that he never did forget that. My partner and I were then thrown off, "That looked a lot like Corey...???" As we walked out of the theater, turns out it was! He was in town filming for The Hardy Boys, so that was pretty wild to have happen, we got a picture and he was so nice! This is for sure a play on the original Halloween 3, down to the font choices they made in the opening credits. It’s also added a almost supernatural silliness to it, how she can sense both Corey and Michael when they’re near. Like the trilogy almost feels like mocking people who wanted more movie from this franchise. The 2018 is the movie everyone expected, kills is the absurd nonsense that happens when you make a sequel that doesn’t make sense to make, and Ends is the weird one off that tries to step away

halfway through I was yelling at my TV. I stuck with it until the part where the cop sees a dead body, gets attacked from behind, and then proceeds to go follow the guy who attacked him into a sewer pipe. It was at that moment I realized that it was just a bad movie.

1:01:41 in the novel Corey says “if I can’t have her neither can you” so there’s a twist on it in the novel at least

They really should've kept all the scenes from the novel that they cut. The meat packing plant would've been perfect if intertwined with the cold open cause you'd be wondering if they're happening at the same time or if Michael is actually killing the kid

@@craftingranger7552 i especially like all the story they give the homeless guy. But a lot of the context the novel give’s definitely should’ve been in the movie like Doug and Allyson’s relationship

For my money this is easily the best of the new trilogy and one of the best sequels in the series. The execution isn’t amazing but I appreciate the big swing.

I wouldn’t say I deeply hated this movie but I’m left feeling like a lover scorned. Looking back on the good times and imagining what could have been. For such a monumental and epic franchise end it felt underwhelming and jumbled. In a way to have a definitive ending at all feels like somewhat of an injustice.

Hilariously, though we don't always agree on films, opinion-wise, a lot of the thoughts you two shared for this review were ones that my spouse and I also had. We too felt like we weren't sure if we liked it or not, but came out after thinking it was just okay, but well made. There were some good fan service bits, and the DJ kill was insane and we too liked the ending for Laurie at the very least. you guys never disappoint me. I like hearing your thoughts on films, because it makes me think more in depth about how it was made, and the choices that writers make. It often helps put into words nebulous feelings I have about movies. It's great. Keep up the great work!

I had fun watching- I deffs thought the same as you a few times during. I was never a huuuge fan of the 2018-2022 trilogy, so watching it as just another Halloween addition and not the end of the trilogy, it was an okay time. Allyson being in the part of Corey would've been really good though!

I personally feel that ends is better than kills, but the actual kills were better in Kills than Ends, the blowtorch kill in ends would have been so much better if it wasn’t so zoomed in 😭

My main issue is this movie didn’t know what it wanted to be. I like the premise of no Michael, but the towns identity is so dependent on Michael Myers that they create a new Michael in Corey and despite his best efforts to be a good person the towns perception consumes him and he becomes a new Michael Myers. Except they ditch that idea in the 3rd act and bring back actual Michael Myers and it’s a traditional Halloween movie with an expected ending finalizing the story. Should have picked one or the other. Would have enjoyed either one if they went 100% with it.

I haven't watched this episode yet. I'll try and watch it soon. So I'll leave a general point here and then update based on the conversation. This whole idea this movie introduced would have been amazing to explore...if they introduced it in 2018. Then the story can naturally go from there. At the very least, combine Kills and Ends into one movie.
