The act starts before he gets to the stage - the shuffling, clumsy walk to the stage carrying his briefcase and - importantly - a lantern. His act goes far beyond a carefully honed singing talent - throughout every one of his performances I see the traditions of the art of the mime, in this case the tradition of the sad-face clown who holds a mirror to our suffering, and shows the tragic side of even our greatest joys. This man is a genius.

Allan Widner In my opinion he is one of the most underrated artist that has ever been on any “Got Talent” Competition and agreed he is undoubtedly a genius his whole persona (act) is spot on; he is a true artist and his voice is phenomenal.
This guy is amazing. I’m a grieving veteran already mourning the upcoming loss of my service/companion dog and just finding this channel is a lifesaver. He starts low and seems to identify where you are at but pulls you in for a smile, a laugh or a sing even leaving you feeling a bit better than just minutes before. This guy would probably done quite well in the courts of middle aged Europe. A master at his profession.

I hope the man who plays Puddles knows how much he’s loved by what he does. His singing is beautiful, really makes you feel the music. It’s like he reaches into your heart and touches it. Absolutely stunning performance. ❤ Puddles reminds me everyday it’s a human thing and it’s okay to be sad. It’s alright to feel that way and sometimes a good cry can let everything out. Actually I think puddles is the real him, and him being out of puddles is the act. It is sometimes like that with people who use costumes. not saying anything bad about this man whatsoever, I 100% respect him and the fact that he makes so many people feel good emotionally speaks volumes. But look at what happened to Jared Leto as the joker in Suicide Squad and Heath Ledger... Sometime the character literally becomes you.

@@alfredharrison597 Your story reminded me of one I heard about Elvis Presley a while back. It seems that Elvis and one of the regular Vegas opening acts (who's name I can't recall at the moment) had become close friends over the years and Elvis had invited him to his dressing room to hang out before a show one evening, When it came time to head backstage, this guy walked along continuing their conversation. Elvis took his place for the beginning and, as it was described, he was still "my buddy Elvis" but as the moment came closer and Elvis was about to make his entrance, he said the strangest thing happened. Somehow, the friend said, "one second I was standing there talking to my good friend Elvis and suddenly, as the music picked up, I found myself looking at ELVIS PRESLEY! " He said it was nothing you could really put your finger on but the transformation was complete

+Dean Webb I'm horribly terrified of clowns as well. My friends once had me meet "Ouchie the Clown" (Look it up), and I thought that was it for me. I almost wrecked my car once. I was a little late for work in DC traffic. As I glanced around the scenery, I saw THE most terrifying bumpersticker "I💗 (a clown head slightly tilted to the side)". The longer I was forced to sit behind a car with such a bumpersticker, more and more infuriated I became. When I was finally able to pass that vehicle, I sped up to pass vehicle...in my mind all I could think, "what type of person would, not only admit to loving clowns, but PROCLAIM the fact for all to see. My lane was finally speeding up some as the lane with the 'car'....FOUR CLOWNS seated in the car. Omg lmfao!! With my mouth agape and me staring hatefully, I had to slam my breaks on as the cars ahead of me had slowed or almost stopped. 8am on a Friday...ruined my day. Hahaha this clown, I'm gonna force myself to ask for a photo with him. 😬 hahahaha

We have all heard this song a million times. There are so many covers and so many versions. But each time I watch this video, I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time. It takes the exaggerated sad clown to truly bring out the emotion in this song. You can feel the grief felt, and the vulnerability of Puddles as a performer interspersed with him applying his makeup is hauntingly beautiful.

I’ve only discovered Puddles in the last couple weeks, and boy, what I’ve been missing. What an act, what a voice.
Crazy man ..... every word, every syllable, every vowel and consonant Perfectly done , none rushed - none skipped. Every note, every bar every phrase, placed down with the tenderness of a man placing a rose on his just passed away mother. Every gesture, every movement done with purpose and intention and with attention of a surgeon removing a live grenade from the still living body with landmines all around. And the application of make-up with the grace of Leonardo da Vince painting the Hand of God.

I am not all that literate, or colorful in my writing (I am lucky to get the spelling right). I fear that my description falls short. Puddles appearances on America Got Talent was so A#1 that I don't have the words. We can only hope that Puddles gets that exposure that his act and voice deserve. This week my first Argentine Tango went on tour to teach the angles to dance. While my teacher went home for Hospice, she insisted they have the weekly dance. And as she got ready to take her 'Flight", her student and friends danced and cried just in the next room. What a beautiful to leave this plain. Puddles has that quality. Sharing our sadness while filling our hearts with joy and uplifting us. You can simply thank Puddles for anything I might write. He is the inspiration.

Hello PrincetonTV, Thank you for sharing your perspective and I'm sure Puddles would be very moved by your heartfelt words and unique insight. Many are touched by Puddles' music but too few express their reaction in such a moving way. This depth of comment is too rare and I really appreciate it. I also hope that Puddles gets the exposure that he deserves and he obviously has and is working very hard to help that happen. His unique performances touch many of us in a powerful way and that's lucky for us. For some, who have more recently been impacted by various kinds of loss and grief, his vulnerability mixed with the power, beauty and coherency of his voice and message, are so comforting during a time when we're experiencing our own vulnerability especially strongly. Be well.

I am incrediblly stunned right this moment. I came across this man as I was watching AGT vids and dared myself to watch his audition. I'm sooo elated right now...I can hardly type! Let me explain; I have suffered since childhood from coulrophobia, "fear of clowns". It has been quite sever as I'm not able to go to birthday or coustume parties if a clown will be there. I cant take my kids to the circus and up until Mcdonald's all but dropped their clown mascot I couldn't even go get a burger from there. I experience great anxiety and panic attacks and even fainted once when a clown came too close. But this man....THIS clown....he's different. His face is gentle and voice reassuring. Unbelievably, the more I watched the calmer I became until eventually I was utterly captivated. Mr. Puddles Pity Party, if you're reading these post, you may very well have cured my phobia! Thank you and God bless you. I will continue to follow your performances. You have positively eased my fears.

Returning for a look at the end of 2021. This remains my favorite rendition after the masterpiece performance by its creator Leonard Cohen
By far my favorite rendition. So many versions of this song concentrate on the "hallelujah" refrain and the verses become merely melodic filler. Puddles reverses that, giving the story a heart-felt interpretation, placing the refrain in it's proper context as punctuation to the story.

Just a theory, but I think the whole point of Puddles’ act is as long as we’re bearing our truest self for everyone to see it shouldn’t matter what you look like.

Naturally, the song and singer are great, but what really grabbed me were the glimpses of Puddles's meticulous ways of applying and gearing up. I really love seeing dedication to a craft.
this man has a deep soul we need more like him
Puddles reminds me of depression. The mask you paint on your face to show the world you’re happy, yet the eyes - the windows to the soul - tell a very different story; one of despair, depth, emptiness, anguish, loss of hope, simply the loss of the self. Don’t ever change Puddles, you are deep, you are a chasm and you are haunting. I am in absolute awe of the ghost that you are.
This is actually the best version of the song I heard so far.

I read that hes a trained Broadway performer. He has to be. He never breaks character. Never even waivers.
@scout360pyroz

not to disbarage broadway but that not restricted to them. anyone who was trained on the disneyland business model, for instance, is taught to never.break character. such a thing is essential to the art of entertainment. Once the mask goes on, you are not yourself. You are that mask, and to break character is to kill that character.

I am a Leonard Cohen fanatic and have seen every other rendition of this song and this one is now in the top two. The first place being occupied by K.D. Lang's version in which Leonard himself appears in the audience of the Canadian Music Awards. I also enjoyed and rate as number 1 the cinematography of this video. Congratulations. He has a beautiful voice and persona.

It's all part of the character. Puddles is a Sad Clown, holding up a mirror to our own sadness. Every little neurotic tic and every ounce of sorrow in his voice is part of that act, and he does it brilliantly. He switches up to sarcastic sometimes too. He's versatile 😁
How dare you.... How dare you to cover my favorite song and make it so damn perfect!... I always almost cry when I hear this song but not this time... this time I actually cried. You're the only singer in this universe who made me cry so many times. And I love it! Thank you...

"the total commitment to this song" I had the same thought but not to the song...to "Puddles". What a gift to all of us.......................
This man has a classic opera voice! I discern that his disappointments in life combined with extreme criticisms and being misunderstood that he channeled it into his projection of the joy of life and touching others souls. Essentially, he's a "wounded warrior" with deep seated love!
Damn! Puddles, every song I hear you sing, I think is better than the original. Brilliant.

I don't know, man. Maybe some of my people will "get" this, and maybe they won't. Let me first state that I HATE both clowns and mimes--hate them---yet, somehow, Puddles is a little bit of both, and I respond to him with great affection. How? Why? I'm not sure!. He's sincere, dramatic--totally committed--and joyful. There's an innocence, and also a biting edge, about him. I love the character that he plays. There's a sadness, irony, and hopefulness. There's a sweetness, and a bit of grief as well. I find it so familiar and comforting. Love you, Puddles!

Because when we are confronted with a great empath like this being before us, who has no other choice but to channel his pain into gold, one that heals him and then heals us as we are in its presence. Mere skill, hours of practice, techniques and traditions have then served their purpose and fall away like water off a ducks back, and our minds bow down and usher us into the great golden hall of light where a far superior being resides, our hearts. The technique and pain serve him, not the other way around. And he serves his greater calling. This is rare, true authentic seat of the soul stuff. The great triumvirate of torch singers, Piaf, Garland and Billie Holliday, artists like Van Gogh and Mozart all lived this. They had no choice. His little lantern lights up his way as he returns home, padding his way through the dark, wet cobblestoned lanes of an old city where humanity is fast asleep with its hand over its ears.
Ohh halllelujah with this guys voice....yes !!!
Thank you Puddles for showing us what you go thru putting on your costume for us before you put on a awesome memorable performance. The way you sing and sound gives people chills. May you forever be able to perform for the people that have come to love and become fans listening to you.
