Love the contrast between Mona and little Dee lifestyles. The show highlights the mother's influence on both daughters.

I watched when it 1st came out & now here I am in 2024 still watching it. Only wish it was given a gd ending. We all know Mona & chester 😂 needed to end up together. The gay guy deserved a gd man & more view time with a story. Dee should have finally apologized to mona for being spoil brat & realized life without daddys money.& Her dad so of supported her more & stop showing dd more love & support

I hate that this show doesnt get as much play. It's one of the best sitcoms and didn't have to be stereotypical or corny and everyone got great characterization

@Lalamimi2010 Except Phyllis never kept Mona from her father. They divorced, but she stayed near him so her child could have her father. You will notice that during all the flashbacks to their childhood, when Mona visited him and his new family he treated her like a second class citizen. HE was the one that decided to remarry (which is his right), have another kid, and treat that child better. You will find that men often treat their children according to how they feel about the mother. This show is a perfect example.

If you're talking material things, the father never denied either daughter. Phyllis raised Mona to be self sufficient and independent like herself, she didn't care about luxury. Big Dee raised Little Dee to always expect the finer things in life. And she expected her husband to provide it.

This why rich men are expected to pay high child support so their child they aren’t living with will get the same experience as the one living with them. It irritates me too cuz it happens in real life. It’s sad how men don’t see it as a bad thing for spoiling one child and not the other
