Haken Audio Magic - Outerworldy jam + Walkthrough of Eaganmatrix Eurorack setup

Музыка

I had a chat with Edmund Eagan from Haken Audio, about how he approaches Eurorack with their new Eaganmatrix Eurorack module. It sounds like nothing else.
The module is available through direct purchase from Haken Audio, and from Schneidersladen:

wow!!! never thought i'd see the day that Eaganmatrix made its way outside the Continuum. what an absolute treat. i feel like the engine really does shine with all of the input gestures the Continuum provides, but this is going to be a must-have for plenty of folks doing ambient anything with their eurorack setup.

I'm a minor part of a museum project to build a functional reproduction of the world's first voltage-controlled synthesizer - Hugh LeCaine's "Electronic Sackbut" (many KZreads of it available), developed and built in the mid-to-late 1940s. It was a monophonic unit that not only used voltage-control, but also had a keyboard that was sensitive to downward and lateral pressure. So, a bit like the Roli or Osmose, though light years away in terms of sensitivity and reliability. The original was tube-based. We have it on display behind glass, but it is not in any sort of playable condition, and is frankly an electrical hazard . The replica uses an identical keybed design (right down to the ugliness and unreliability) but for sound generation and managing the performance controls (of which the original had many, including a form of "morphing"), we have not one, but TWO Eaganmatrix modules in a 4MS powered enclosure. It may well be more power than is actually required, but we'll see as the project progresses. The sounds from the Eaganmatrix are delicious, even in mono. I suspect I'd appreciate them even more with a better and less frustrating polyphonic keybed (I should bring in my Keystep 37 to work, but am afraid it would spoil me). But even with an unreliable mono keybed, the sounds are lovely. The display takes a bit of getting used to, and could probably benefit from being more than a 7 x 20 red LED display, although Edmund has managed to provide a surfeit of parameter info with such a meagre resolution. Thankfully, Edmund is a local, so any technical needs are but a phone call away.

This kalimba which is used to feed the Eagan matrix seems to be such a nice device! I love that voice coming out of it. I think that the output of the Kalimba delivers a very good sound quality… I am interested to get more informations about the Kalimba which is used to feed the EagonMatrix. Could you please tell me the brand of that Kalimba? I would like to find out more about it and perhaps buy it. Thanks 😊

I can only recommend you to buy a normal kalimba. They are not that expensive and so much fun to play. Then record it manually and if you like it get one with amp.

23:27 for the next few minutes... other synths would condense this whole description into a "bloom" knob, or similar... but they wouldn't give you the individual building blocks, which is what you get here. I get back to it today or tomorrow! Will have to update it, but probably will wait til Monday or Tuesday. Been only using a digital piano and fx for months, so it will be a nice change.

I've been watching the eaganmatrix for a while but it's hard to find info on it. thanks for the detailed interview. As a bonus, that kalimba was really beautiful sounding and looking. do you know who the maker is?

Hi I don’t know if this is the place to ask so I apologise in advance if I made a mistake. I do play instruments and have become aware of synths and drum machines etc. I been looking on you tube and there are so many many many many many things out there I am completely lost as where would be a place to start or what to buy just to peer thru the keyhole before opening a door? Could you do a video on those lines ? What amazing talent you have .thanks
