Imagine the psychological pressure on the challenger. Here he is about to have the most important fight of his life, against the undefeated champion who has never lost a fight,a monster unlike any in the whole country. Then you start hearing rumours that the dude killed a bear with his bare hands. Affter seeing the bear skin you believe the rumours to be part of a prank. Just as you are about to sigh in relief you see the *HUGE CLAW MARKS* while the champion just stares at you like you are an insect.

Puts a whole new perspective on "If you see me fighting a bear, you better help that poor bear." Would you want to fight any kind of fight with a guy that honestly looks like he took out an actual bear? Cuz I wouldn't. I'd be psyched out, too, lol. Then he goes and beats the dude with nothing but his left.

"A man who rules with his left, rules the world." I really love this quote. The way I understand it is, it's not necessarily talking about boxing, but the world in general. If you can command power without having to use your true strength, like Takamura's straight right in the show, you are near undefeatable. By making all of your attributes sharp instead of just one, you can indeed rule the world.

Him and Ricardo Martinez were the only two boxers in the show that could box both orthodox and brawler styles at the highest level. Too bad they would never face off. Would love to see them spar at least once before the series end though. I can't wait to see Dempsey 3.0 animated. Honestly, something like that would give even the best counter punchers the most trouble. Since counters are all about timing, and getting the angle down, but with the Dempsey 3.0, it's a barrage of endless punches from any angle, and he can initiated from any range. Crazy stuff. Ippo is gonna be a monster when he get's back in the ring.

"A man who rules with his left, rules the world." I guess people don't fully grasp what this quote means or how amazing Takamura is for doing this In order to beat someone using only your left in boxing means your fundamentals are on point. He's literally fighting with one arm tied behind his back, by doing that he has made himself very predictable because now his opponent knows which arm will be used, he also nerfed himself of his own power. That means in the fight, Takamura demonstrated complete mastery of - distance control - blocking - head movement - body movement - ability to read an opponent - counter punching - timing We forget but his opponent was a top 5 world ranker, the equivalent of all the other main characters in terms of skill like Mashiba, Sendo, Miyata, and Ippo and Takamura just took this guy down in the first round without getting hit once. The implications of this quote does come up again as in the second season when Ippo spars Ricardo, Ricardo only uses his left and knocks Ippo out, whereas Date who spars Miyata win but uses his right at the very end, hinting at the fact that Date is not on the same level as Ricardo coming into the fight.

I just realized... Takamura's fighting style is based around Mike Tyson at the beggining of his career, before he started to be under Don King's management. A deadly punch, counters, and excellent dodging. After Tyson fiered Kevin Rooney as a trainer, he stopped being a fast dodger and started just getting punched all the time. Sure, he was still Mike Tyson, one punch from him would end you, but not being a good dodger anymore is what caused his career to start spiraling down.

I like that this anime works within the realm of realism. Of course it is over the top, but not like character can destroy planets and reverse time. This make the series to rely on narratives and character development. Takamura is the only character able to pull a Deus ex machina because is the ideal boxer, the strongest character of the series.

  • @MaxusFox23
