I worked for a Korean woman that owned a salon (which I later managed). There was a Korean woman that was my aged that worked there as well. I learned SO MUCH. The education and training they receive in Korea is FAAARRR more advanced than anything we receive in the U.S. I was fortunate enough to learn some of the techniques from the other Korean stylist. She had the digital machine like the one in Guy Tangs video and the last one you showed. I assisted with a lot of the perms she performed on her Asian clientele. It was very involved. Again, I was fortunate to have those opportunities to learn more advanced techniques. It is very involved. There is a lot to learn. Asian hair is some of the most difficult hair to work with. I could go on and on about what we did, different techniques, products, clients, their hair, what most desire for their hair….SO MUCH! It’s incredible. I cannot express how much I appreciate their culture and how incredibly grateful I am that I was given the trust to learn what I did.

I got a digital perm on my virgin hair so I wouldn't have to do much with my hair when travelling for business, and it was the most amazing hair I've ever had. Looked great, so easy to maintain. Unfortunately I got it at the end of February 2020. 20 days later, I was in lockdown, no more business trips. 😅 I had 6 months of great hair in zoom calls. @zombieebunny The only thing I can personally think of is a very thick hair mask. The Garnier Nutrisse ones work pretty well and are not expensive. They work with my hair when I'm struggling. If that doesn't work you can always try a leave in conditioner. With curly hair you want a decent amount of product to keep it from frizzing out. Texturising mousse on the roots for the lift and body you want. And finish off with a little extra hold hair spray for hold. And if you want add a little hair gel for the edges. I hope I helped you out a little bit. These are just things I've done with my hair to help control it.

Okay, I'm 247 years old but I can actually remember when we had those strange looking perm machines in this country. Each curler was attached to a cord that was attached to a machine and enough heat was generated to "set" the curl. I never had my hair done on one of those machines; I just saw them in salons. I did a double take when I saw that perm machine in the first part of this video. Takes me WAAAAY back. I've heard that there's nothing new under the sun and THIS certainly isn't new. It may be new in Korea but the last one I saw in this country was in the mid-60's. I think on the ones in this country the curler was actually a part of the machine but on the Korean model the curlers are separate. How tight the curl is depends on how long you leave the curler in. Just take them out sooner if you want a loose curl and leave them in longer if you want a tight curl. I never thought I would ever see one of these monstrosities again.

But I decided to get one done in high school and that was the first time I felt like my hair was beautiful. Since then, I’ve been trying to transition my hair back to its natural waviness even after the digital perm “wore off” and I ended up cutting it. @@md.md16 I've got those surfer waves personally, and if I don't preen them right it's just fluff. You're too right people want what they don't have 🙂 I often think of some (black) comedian lamenting that he felt so jealous when white peeps ran their fingers through their hair (I can't remember who). But I love the lovely braids and fro's. I can see how traditional black hair would be difficult but there's a bit of me that's always a tad envious when I watch hair videos and see some amazing styles.

I just do my best at home, I don't do layers anymore, they never come out right, for some reason they turn towards outside, if it makes sense, not downwards to look nice. The earliest perms in America used a heat delivery system very similar to these, but with much more potential for damage. I had a Korean digital C-curl perm for my really frizzy and fine hair too but it was not fancy contraption like that. The first time I got it done it was terrible as the frizz was still bad and I went back to the salon. The owner did some work again (Not sure what she did) and after that it was great. I love that the Korean digital C curl perm does not give me hair that is so flat (compared to the traditional straight perm) and lacks volume. I still manage to have a bit of volume despite my texture. Love Korean digital perm.

Started getting these once a year since I was 19. I love it so much. A few things about this perm: 1) It’s a hot perm, so unlike a cold perm, it’s more curly when dry, so you don’t use mousse or gel. Because you don’t use mousse or gel, the styling while blow drying is very crucial and you can do so many different styles. 2) Because it uses heat, you can’t do it all the way to the roots unless you want it to burn your scalp, so that’s why in the first video, she choose to do an additional root perm. It gets kinda hot during the process, especially around the ears and neck 3) I have long hair (to the small of my back), so it takes 4-5 hours each time for me. It’s a very long process 4) It also isn’t very damaging for me despite what stylists have told me. Not sure if it’s because of my hair type, but I’ve never had damage from the perm. I have gotten damage from the styling process after the perm (using high heat from the blow dryer), but that’s more because if my carelessness. 5) It’s very highly recommended to have layers with this perm if you have longer hair because the perm along really shows up on the bottom 1/2 of the hair, so without layers, the line between curly and straight is very obvious
