I love the message of this song. It’s not about toxic feminism. It’s celebrating all types of girls and women. She is supporting all body shapes but you can work out and change your body. The different outfits show you can be more feminine or more masculine but you still are a girl we all have the same struggles. And we are all beautiful in our own way. When this song came out when I was 15 years old I always listen to it so many times😭🤧 and still sounds fresh. Hailee Steinfeld you are amazing❤️. I’ll never forget this song from my memories

I didn't pay much attention to this song back then but I still liked it but it felt like back then everyone was releasing songs with this kind of message following some kind a trend but now I look back at it and see these kinds of songs (every one of them) are a stepping stone for women who have grown up strong and beautiful. These kind of songs paved the way in their own little way. Grateful that I grew up with these songs.

"Not like other girls" phases happen because society teaches us that masculine things are better and should be valued above more feminine ones when there's nothing wrong with liking either one. This isn't intended to be against more masculine women, if you're not hurting anyone like what you like.

I also should just for the sake of transparency state I am a dude before I say what I say next. I have always HATED people who say "You aren't like most XYZ" regardless of what the XYZ happens to be specifically. This is because what you are doing is twofold, you are saying that they are somehow better or above whatever that "moxt xyz" is but also you are not complimenting them on what they actually are you are complimenting them on what they AREN'T, and even worse it often goes unstated only to have the blanks filled in by the one hearing it. So in this case is it that: "You aren't like 'Most Girls' ....because you aren't a shallow, vapid, narcissistic bitch?", as if its fair to set her apart from the rest of 'girldom' by some unfair standard to cast down the rest of the gender (like you were suggesting)? Is it REALLY a compliment to be told you arent, the above, while not stating one iota anything about what you actually ARE. Is that how Hailee taking it? I don't think so. Or is it that its just a completely empty, useless and ultimately WORTHLESS comparison because of the very fact that there is almost no such thing as "Most Girls" (as illustrated by the song) and in reality "Most Girls" are really only unified by one key characteristic and thats the fact that they are living their genuine life in their own way. Pinhead Larry I agree. These days people take "love yourself" too much and use it to shame others for wanting to change. I am around 40lbs over weight and my bmi is climbing into the "obese" categories but I still look pretty good bc I carry my weight well. But I start eating better with a lot of veggies and start exercising and all I hear everyday at work is how "perfect" I am and I don't need to diet or change myself. They even make fun of how I brought my green veggies for lunch instead of eating out, or say "xx can't have a soda. She's on a "diet" and snicker about me.

She's saying that if you want to change yourself for the better, it's not a bad thing, because if you love yourself, you'd try to better yourself. In a world with modern things like the Fat Acceptance movement, it's nice to finally hear someone make sense, this is probably the smartest song I have heard in a long time!

The most part i love about this song is "i want to be like most girls" and its true were beautiful like the sun and the guy at the beginning just said "ur not like most girls" but in her beautiful return she got revenge and im glad she made this song because i mean its true that she said in this whole pretty song

This girl slayed in True Grit. And it seems like she really embodies that! I really admire that!

Current social climate benefits from pitting women against each other. Also "pick me" girls are not the girls that prefer sports or act more masculine. "Pick Me" is reserved for any woman who specifically adjusts her interests, personality, and ideals for the sake of degrading other women around her with the goal to elevate herself for the sake of male affection and attention. Often these women have internalized misogynistic ideals or perpetuate men's misogynistic opinions. If someone tosses out "Pick Me" simply to tear down another woman for her genuine hobbies or interests then she is using the term wrong and is likely a jealous and insecure individual.

I think some people have the meaning wrong, the meaning is that *all* girls are different, ("No two are the same"). It's saying despite this she wants to be like them because they're all great despite their differences ("I wanna be like most girls.") So, the message of this song is: Every girl is different in their own way, but no matter who they are, they are all amazing. (Also, to never tell a girl she's not like most girls or else she'll make an entire song on you) (This comment was originally 2 years ago, I edited it to be more comprehensive!)

What some don't understand is that it is sometjimes used as a compliment. Lets clarify this quickly, like guys, not every girl is what you want to be around. Some are absalute chavs and in my expirence, some of the worst people they know. If that is the girls they know, it is a compliment, something they like about that girl. Taking this broad brush approach to issues makes life difficult in many other ways because nobody takes things case by case anymore to find out the real factors behind the issue going on.

It's a surprisingly hard message to find in modern times, but Hailee is very smart with it, sure you should be happy with how you are now, but if you feel like you can do something to make yourself feel better like lose weight or something, do it, because if you love yourself, you should be trying to better yourself, this is the smartest song I have heard in a long time!

Giving confidence and motivation to make positive changes isn't tearing them down, believe it or not, just saying 'you're great no matter what' doesn't work for everyone! I'm sorry to say this but some people need to hear more, and this is a sad fact but while everyone has positive aspects, nobody is perfect, and everybody has something bad about themselves, like me, I have horrible skin that is covered in eczema and looks horrible, and I would love to treat it and be rid of it, but not because I worry people will judge me for it, but because it itches and is uncomfortable, so I out effort with products and medicine to clear my skin. I so that for me not for anyone, so why is any different when a girl wants it? Having high self esteem and wanting to make positive changes are not mutually exclusive. Like I said, some people, man or woman, need more than a generic preschool cartoon message saying 'you're special!' Some people legitimately think there's something they can do to to better themselves, and if they actually try, good for them!
