    Fun Fact: Asahi's last name Azumane is "東(East) 峰(Peak)" in Japanese kanji, and Nishinoya is "西(West) 谷(Valley)". Asahi's first name is 旭 in Japanese kanji, but the word "Asahi" can be written as 朝日". which means "Morning Sun" On the other hand, Nishinoya's first name Yuu 夕 means "Evening". One of the things that I think makes Haikyuu so loved is that you end up loving, or at the very least, understanding all of the teams. Karasuno may be the protagonists and will always be loved, but even the antagonists (Shiratorizawa is actually my favorite team lol) and the minor teams that only show up for a chapter or an episode are appreciated by fans because of how well Furudate-sensei realistically portrays each of them.

    helpful info about the third years: Japanese school year runs from April to March. I believe this particular event is running from June to August whereas the next tournament (spring high) will run from late August until January which coincides with college entrance exams which are also held in (mid)-January. Therefore, 3rd years are heavily discouraged from participating in order to prepare for their exams (unless gunning for a sports scholarship I believe).

    Tsukki wasn't trying to bring Asahi down during that comment. If you follow the all argument asahi says that he doesn't envy tsukki for beeing matched up against Aone and tsukki explains that Aone will still go for Asahi since he always targets the other teams ace while blocking. He is basically analizing the situation as it is. That's just how tsukki is when he plays. Methodical, Logical and Realistic, he only analizes the information right in front of his eyes and very rarely let's his emotions get in the way. (Again, when he plays)

    Suga wished his tosses could have played a part in this victory, but he really did help them! He created a secret signals for Kageyama and Hinata to decide when to use their freak quicks on the court, he begged them to open the path for the ace, he gave Kageyama directions on how to do Asahi's preferred set. He really did play a part, he just didn't know it. Haikyuu is full of little poetic moments like that!

    I don't see this in the comments, so I'll go for it: * When Tsuki is talking about Hinata being the one stealing the spotlight, Hinata is lit with the sun, and Tsukishima with the moon. This is pretty poetic in all senses, because of the speech, the names ("Hi" = Sun and "Tsuki" = Moon), their personalities, and their roles. * ... Coach, they were only two sets, but you missed the moments when they mentioned it 😅

    I played soccer for a Japanese league when I was a kid, so I know that these players constantly shouting "Nice kill!", "Nice serve!", "Chance ball!", etc. is very true to life. It's just part of Japanese sports etiquette to shout these short phrases to keep the morale of the team high. I know that for me, it felt awesome to hear my teammates say "Nice clear!" when I intercepted a pass and cleared the ball. Are there equivalent phrases that you use in American Volleyball?

    The anime was just an adaptation of the manga (comic) and it's a weekly release, meaning the mangaka (comic artist) with just a few assistant must finish the story and the art of a chapter in just 1 week every single week and Furudate did all those details in such a tight schedule. A genius indeed. The anime just copy the stories and details and add some if the author of the original work requests something. Some anime changes the actual story but so far in haikyuu it's just the same as it was in manga minus some of the scenes to fit in the time span of an episode.

    When it comes to high school sports in Japan, numbers are usually given off seniority then based off skill. Captains (usually 3rd years) are given the number 1 and vice-captains are number 2 then numbers are given by seniority from third years to first. Daichi, K-pop setter, and Kuro (from nekoma) all wear 1, are all captains and are all 3rd years. There are instances were 2nd and 1st years get lower numbers then 3rd years due to skill or other circumstances where schools will give a certain number to a specific position but majority of the time teams will follow the seniority structure when giving out numbers. Skill wise Asahi is better then Suga but his number 3 since his the only other 3rd year that's not a cap/vice-cap. Since there are no more 3rd years after them, Nishinoya and Tanaka are the best of the 2nd years hence 4-5 numbers respectively. Kageyama is the best of the first years so he get his number first and has 9. Dateko is a little different in that their captain is number 2 and their vice is number 1 but both are still 3rd years and they're team still follows the seniority structure after them. Take another high school sport in Japan like basketball. First number and captain numbers is 4 , vice is 5 and seniority follows after.

Haruichi Furudate himself did the illustrations and chose for the ball to drop instead of slam. Don't get me wrong the animators did incredible job but I just wanted to give credit to where it's due. At the min 9:05 you can see hinata and tsukishima being represented with the sun and the moon. Well, that's not only because hinata is the decoy and he has to be britgth, but because their names. 日 is the kanji for hi (hinata), it means sun, 月 is the kanji for tsuki (tsukishima) it means moon. It's really amazing how the mangaka uses all kind of rhetoric, and once you know little bit of japanese or japanese culture you appreciate those little details.

  • @reikaarakawa5757
    @reikaarakawa57573 жыл бұрын

    At 8:02 the subtitles aren't really accurate, what Asahi said is more like "Tsukishima, you're going to have a hard time" because Tsukki will be facing Aone a lot more on this rotation. That's why Tsukki's answer is negative saying that "Nah! nobody really expects me to defeat Aone" and as Tsukki said himself he feels that he's only facing Aone to keep things safe (in other words the reason they changed rotation is so Aone won't get used to Hinata like Inoue of Nekoma) and so Tsukki wasn't trying to get on Asahi's head when he told Asahi that Aone is already locking on Asahi. Tsukki is basically saying that Aone's focus is Asahi and not him. 😭So please don't call Tsukki stupid 😅😂

    There are two major volleyball tournaments in Japan (and in Haikyuu) - the Inter-High and the Spring High. Right now, Karasuno is in the preliminaries for the Inter-High for their prefecture (Inter-High is a national tournament, and generally only one team per prefecture gets to go). All of the games in both of these tournaments are best-of-three, with the following exceptions: The finals of the Inter-High nationals are best of five. The finals *and* semifinals of the Spring High nationals are best of five. And the finals of the Spring High *prefecturals* are also best of five. But not for the Inter-High... for whatever reason. The "prefectural finals" are the match that gets to decide who out of their prefecture goes to the national round of the tournament.
