Hadrian's Wall Review - Box ticking makes me feel Roman
Ойындар
A pen and paper Euro board game that provides a check box sheet chock full of resources and art! This way, your tabletop strategy can still be crunchy while also substantially cutting down on fiddly component bloat and endless kickstarter add ons. In Hadrian's Wall, players will draw cards that will provide both resources and victory point conditions. Then at regular intervals while using those resources to tick off boxes, the Picts will attack, meaning you'll have to develop your upgrades using a strategy that stations your defences well, on top of building a point scoring engine! But as usual with so many Euros, the rulebook and symbols may need some cleanup, especially for a game that's otherwise pretty easy to actually play!

Note: While I do say "We" a lot during this review, I (Ashton) have still only played it solo! Just so used to saying "we" during these reviews. -Ashton
Had to fill out my tax return, ticked so many boxes. Feeling pretty damn Roman right now.
Nice to see a roll and write style game without excessive randomness. Nice review guys!
A quick aside for any Hadrian's Wall fans who aren't aware, the designer also created a campaign pdf document after the original printing. Available on BGG: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/224266/hadrians-wall-official-solo-campaign
Definitely not for me lol but I always appreciate reviews from you guys!
This is a great logic puzzle, it looks crazy but think of it as a gamer crossword puzzle. Once you learn the framework it’s so satisfying and makes a lot of sense.
Ooo dang now I want this game! Roll and writes got me
I grabbed it for $20 used after playing 2-player with a buddy. I had a great time playing with someone else as we talked about what we were attempting to complete (I tried to max scout, while he was all in for temples). So yeah, I have tried the solo campaign a few times (can't seem to beat the first 2 levels).
And now I want to play this game.

Agreed. My friend showed me this game back when it came out, and we played two player… immediate impression upon completing our game was that it is essentially a solo game and likely plays best solo! That being said… I have been thinking about picking up a copy ever since. It’s an entertaining puzzle, and without having to worry about other people waiting for you figuring out all the combos each round.

ahaha thought it would resonate with solo players! -Ashton
Fun fact: woke up after falling asleep while watching KZread to a documentary about the Roman invasion/occupation/integration of England…And, lo and behold, suddenly learned about the actual Hadrian’s Wall!

woohoo! defend against those picts! -Ashton
You're absolutely right about this being a solo-only game. I can't imagine trying to teach this to others while they only have their own boards to look at. Have you had a chance to try the official solo campaign?

haven't tried the official solo campaign, since I just wanted to cover what was in the box. Awesome that its free for people who want more content though! -Ashton
Lol no way I just bought Hadrians Wall and played my first game of it today!
Echo the comments that the solo campaign adds an additional layer of variety. Definitely better as a solo experience than multiplayer.
Just looking at the size of those sheets... man, I still don't know if I want to get the game.

It looks intimidating at first, but once you've played a round or two it's actually quite easy to read the board.

The text and symbols are small for sure, but if you're playing single player that's 99% all you'll be looking at -Ashton
i was wondering, will you review frosthaven ? thanks

I wonder how this competes with other Roll/Flip n Writes.

It's one of the best on the market right now.
Great video! I dislike roll n write though.

Even people who dislike roll and writes have enjoyed this one. It feels more like a medium weight euro than it does a standard roll and write.
I don't solo game but I keep looked at this one but that price makes me change mind everytime... Has anybody ever just laminated a couple pages and used wet erase markers?
@Shelfside

I've seen people putting glass on top of it, but yeah the price is really quite steep if that's a concern for you. The replay value in terms of pages included is fine, likely nothing to worry about there -Ashton
Your pen ink is a pain in the arse for those ADHD to watch! By the way. Have you tried campaign mode for solo? It’s challenging.
Dude, you need a better pen!
