I think Frank just about wins this weeks item-off! Danny almost had it and Jeremy gave up quite early in the race.

Cant wait for the offical release of Hades 2. Getting those amazing deep runs and feeling like you made the perfect build is addictive. Also, Prey is one of the best games EVER made. In my top 5 of all time.

100%, it definitely falters a little towards the end but the general gameplay loop explore, solve puzzle in a way of your choosing, defeat some enemies, loot, recycle, craft repeat was just ON POINT. Also all the lovely touches they dotted around from the employees with the secret DnD games and the bolt caster and the karaoke and the secret romances just made the whole place feel so authentic and lived in. Every single member of the ship had a story to discover if you were interested in finding it. One of my favourite gaming experiences of the last 10 years easily

Danny saying game studios should be able to make "fine" games reminds me of the GDC talk "Failing to Fail: The Spiderweb Software Way". A game studio shouldn't just automatically shutter if their game isn't a mega hit. Look at a studio like Iron Galaxy where they do a lot of work for hire, but they're able to survive because they spread the workload so if a project fails they don't go under. The Dead Cells team split up into multiple studios because they didn't want to get too big and run into the problem of being unsustainable.

i wish more people were talking about INDIKA. one of the most unique and memorable storytelling experiences i have ever had, in any medium. truly a surprising and thought provoking game that is a prime example of a story that is best told through the lens of video games.

uint = u int (say like "you int"). Refers to unsigned integer types in programming languages. Or maybe it's totally unrelated to that, but that's the only uint I know. Not that person, obv.

The story for Redfall was never that the main developers all left. The story is that 70% of the developers that worked on Prey left during Redfall, as reported by Jason Schreier, a fairly reputable source.

My fav thing about the Hades series (is it too early to refer to it as a series?) is the absolute fangirling the entire community does about all the characters and the writing and the beautiful art. A lot like the way Baldur's gate just had this thirsty adoration that carried it for months after release. So fun to watch and read about :)

The news about 70% of Prey team leaving before the launch of Redfall came straight from Schreier's investigation where it's also been reported that the team wasn't enthusiastic about the project. I'm not sure how you couldn't find anything about this when it's literally the top search result. As far as I understand, the closure was due to the way Microsoft leaves its branches to its own devices. Bethesda's revenue is sort of separate from two other branches so once they don't hit the numbers, they can't just rely on Microsoft's backing - even though that's what the teams were literally promised. Austin and Tango started hiring up for Dishonored and HF2 which would take years and therefore in the current situation they are the easy target on the cutting board.

Schreier always over sensationalizes everything though... just because people aren't enthusiastic about something doesn't mean they left.

@@Thurrak You can put both Prey and Redfall credits side by side and the 70% staff turnover becomes apparent.

There’s a really good example of the many small projects thing in film: blumhouse make a ton of films for a few mil each and occasionally they get a ‘get out’ that recoups for everything. It would be really cool to see this applied more in games. And for risk averse corporations I’m surprised it’s not seen as more attractive when spending a ton on a massive aaa game isn’t a guarantee anyway.

I genuinely think the analogue games idea is very good, that's what drew scanlon was doing with cloth map and there's been a gap and that market since it shut in the pandemic. I still remember that interview that Danny did with Drew on Gaelic Sports. I 100% sincerely think this should be done, give me a paetron link to it and i'll be the first to sign up.

Ive read some of the negative reviews on Steam for Hades 2 because I wanted to know whats behind all the praise. The biggest complaint seems to be that the gameplay feels way slower with too many delays on the skills. I hope they will "fix" that, because Hades felt great because it was fast imho. Hope they are getting good suggestions from the Early Access players. Cant wait for the full release! Indika is very weird. I watched a complete playthrough of it and its interesting, but Im not sure if I would recommend it to anyone. It feels very Russian in a way, like the games from Ice-Pick Lodge, The Void, Pathologic and similar stuff.
