I have six backyard chickens. All their lives they were on organic feed that has no molasses. To save money I switched to a cheaper feed and you can smell the molasses. When I made the switch one chicken became afraid and wouldnt leave the nest box, it became fearful of me. I switched back to organic feed and the next day it came out of the nest box and started following me around again, totally changed it's behavior for the better. Now one week later its behavior continues to improve.

We can buy pleasure, but we cannot buy happiness. That’s a statement I will use. What a good analogy for what we see going wrong in this country.

Pleasure is addictive but happiness is not. Pleasure can be bought and happiness is not. Pleasure is individual while happiness is social.Pleassure is serotonin mediated while pleasure is dopamine receptors involved.Very good lessons.

THIS GUY! Dr. Lustig has been a hero of mine for years because he provided me with the knowledge that led to a paradigm shift that protects me from the pro-profit, manipulative tactics that were influencing my choices, behaviors, and interactions with others. You simply can't unsee the truth, and to quote David Allen Thoreau "Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth."
Robert Lustig is a beacon of hope for a better future.
Dr. Lustig is the best, brilliant man, great interview.Thank you.
Dr. Lustig is the man. Props to him.
Thanks to Dr. Lustig I've reprogrammed how I think and I'm no longer oblivious
Thanks to Dr. Lustig. WE HAVE TO CONTROL ADDICTION. An M.D. - Dr. Lustig has complex knowledge and explanations about nutrition and brain health, even economics and product branding.
Thanks to Dr Lustig’s studies, I’ve been able to get past the sugar addiction that I struggled with for decades.
Wonderful. Robert Lustig has done lots of valuable work.
This interview to Prof Lustig is one of the best. I think that he is getting better at explaining things in an entertaining way. Or maybe I have heard enough of his talks, that I understand him better 🤣

I am professor of chemistry in India I want to give this message to my students thanks Dr Lusting
It's a pleasure to listen to such a comprehensive, cogent, and articulate world view.
Dr. Lustig is a God of infinite information and wisdom! I am addicted to all-of his videos. He should run for a president. Sharing his videos with friends and family. He should do Netflix documentary to reach further. I am changing my diet and removing processed foods from my diet. My whole family loves home cooked vegetable meals with lots of fiber. We love you for helping the humanity. Thank you. 😊
Now don't get me completely wrong! I still have a few favorite you tube channels have always followed crime and trials. I just found I was getting addicted and unmotivated. Your video was motivating and enlightening Thanks
Watched it twice in a row. Priceless like the contentment of serotonin. Thanks a lot for this gem, or maybe I should say this hug. Sharing.
Thanks a million for making this interview video. It makes a lot of sense. One of the best video available on YT for learning about psychology of addiction.
Such a great interview. Hope gets millions of view Dr Lustig is the best to exolain in simple words many things in nutrition and now addiction to the public. I love him and thanks him forever. M gracias amigo.
CORRECTION The name of the book mentioned by Dr. Rob needs correction. It is THE HOUR BETWEEN DOG AND WOLF and not THE HOUR BETWEEN BEAR AND WOLF
My whole family are benefiting from this information. Its enraging and motivating in equal measure.
That was some extraordinary insight. Very worth bookmarking to watch again.
Thank you for having Dr Robert Lustig on, when he talks , I listen.
Thank you so much. I learn Something new everytime I listen to Dr Lustig.
Unselfish love, kindness, and caring is the best way towards having true fulfillment. On our last day, we will not be wishing for more time at the office, more money, or cool things, but we will be wanting more time to share with the people we care about and love. Why wait till your last day? Spend time with them today.
Excellent interview and lecture of Dr. Lustig.
Thank you Dr Lustig
Its a great podcast, spreading real facts and good advice about health nutrition and dietetics, i started decreasing sugar consumption and i wish i could spread this vibe and methodologies through my country 🇲🇦🇲🇦
The imbalance of dopamine to serotonin shows how flawed of an individual we are..."we can buy pleasure, but not happiness ".... now I know why, pleasure is abundant, happiness is scarce...
34:50 the correct title of the book is "the hour between dog and wolf" Definitely recommended especially for trading

The reality and HOPE comes from parents and "WE" wanting to understand our bodies. We are responsible for ourselves .... NO ONE ELSE! This info is powerful and Must be communicated to families and teachers....... Gov. will not do it nor the fast food industry.

Please pray for me for healing in my brain snd all body systems and severe depression because of neuroendocrine problems and GI and inability to have any joy at all. I’ve lost everything because of this. I have severe pain and very strange and extremely uncomfortable symptoms that never end. I can’t eat or eliminate normal bowel movements etc, severe autonomic and autoimmune dysfunction. I can’t sweat, my skin feels different from the inside, everything is different and my brain is in complete darkness. I cannot sleep because of something wrong in my brain and nothing has helped. I haven’t slept for a year, I have aged so much and my skin and body looks like an old lady I need a miracle. I’m only 39, I wasn’t ready to die yet and living this way is actually not life either. Not at all.
Nice and knowledgeable discussion.

There are also people w chronic illnesses who did “all the right things”. I ate paleo, did CrossFit, was never over a healthy bmi and yet still got Guillean barre so just make sure you aren’t shaming people for their disease. Maybe a lot are attributable to lifestyle but not all.

Doesn't the dominance of the reward system over our behavior suggest that we are fundamentally designed not necessarily to be happy but just to survive?

Very interesting podcast. I got a bit disoriented by the price elasticity issue. I searched the Internet and I found that it is exactly the opposite. Any idea about that?
@kenadams5504
Жыл бұрын
The idea is that when the price of fastfood /soda is increased , the consumption level is maintained . When the price of foods that aid serotonin production is increased , consumption levels decrease . Therefore , the short term pleasure affect of sugar foods , is what consumers pay more money for.We will not pay more for the long term happiness Whole Foods bring us . This shows the relationship between "money expenditure and pleasure" , as opposed to "money expenditure and happiness ". Pleasures can be acquired quickly with money , but long term happiness cannot.
@TerryJLaRue

Elasticity works both ways. For example, the price of salt is inelastic. If salt price goes down, people don't buy more; they buy the same amount. If the price goes up, people don't buy less; they buy the same amount. That's one reason you rarely see salt on sale.

Best medicines? Exercise, lose weight, eat whole food. This is critical to good health. My retiring MD told me this. PS, Buy whole food at Aldis. Aldis is 30% to 50% less than the big chains. At least that is my experience. Soups, salads, stir fry, problem cured.

From this i presume natural sugar should be ok. Does having a mango a day also hurt the same way as having something processed desserts with similar sugar content. I find it hard to stay away from fruits and considering they are real they should be ok I guess. Some macro Based diets consider them the same
