Hack of the Month Club -- Project #3: Jumping Speakers
Музыка
Nic Collins shows how to make an oscillator using nothing more than a battery, a speaker and a little scrap metal. From the DVD in "Handmade Electronic Music -- The Art of Hardware Hacking" (Routledge 2009).

I spent almost an hour of my life just messing with this I thought it was so cool
Fortissimo l'altoparlante grande . Antichissimo .... Mega vintage. Una vera padella :-)))
Something wonderful like this needs further experimentation ...... wire, battery,speaker......check! Thanks for the video, going to play now :)

Me watching this 12 years later really finds this fascinating.
I found this really interesting as a newbie to all this. Had a go myself and it was very worthwhile to do and gave me lots of ideas. Thank you for uploading these tutorials, working my way through them and loving it.
Great demonstration! Thanks for the great videos!

Hi
Amazing! thinking beyond the box.
This would make great original sound effects. For robots or various droids talking in some unknown digital languages.
You can also attach a small dc motor in series with the battery & the speaker to produce a steady oscillation.
Throwing DC current in a speaker : the best way to burn the voicecoil !

Would possibly be less harm with a properly calculated resister and maybe a diode in series.

It will also get the battery warm the more you play with it due to the high current. I studied electronics back in highschool so it's been awhile for me. It just depends how much amperage the speaker can handle without burning it out and how much current that little 9v battery can take before destroying it.

+xDarkSiderx But you forget that it's an air cooled coil. With AC it moves back and forth and that piece of fabric in the bottom is pumping air in and out. With DC fed into it, it will become an oven.

when robots get advanced enough to the point where they can sprint then I think I'll just modify one to have 4 giant speakers on its back

You guys at Celestion bored?
so awesome !!!
Hi, I'm not sure I know how to explain what I'm trying to do? I need help please, without having to go buy high priced electronics, I'm trying to move a speaker coil within it's magnet field and change frequency of movement with a less expensive product. I've checked tone generators, frequency generators, amps, It's all confusing to me? Thanks, Bill

have you tryed music...
i"ve been messing with speakers a bit lately, and even found out how easy it is to build a basic one diy, it's only a coil and a magnet repelling each other, and now i'm wandering if the same principle could be used to build a kind of "linear" motor, that would push and pull instead or rotating, controlling it's speed and state could be just as easy as "playing" the right "beat" for it, if it could be strong enough maybe it could have many applications, like a robotic arm's joints working more similar to a hydrolic system instead of tons of gears and pullies, maybe a pump could also work with this, etc!!!

What if you connect multiple speakers of different sizes? Typically how long will a 9 volt run the first speaker in this video ?

and now ad one transistor (NPN Type) 2x resistors (100k,1k)2x capacitors (47uf,470uf) there are coupling capacitors. and you get a class A amp.
