Haas Coolant Tank Oil Skimmer Time Lapse - Haas Automation, Inc.
Ғылым және технология
We posted a video recently where Mark talks about the benefits of using an oil skimmer to help maintain your coolant performance. We put this video together showing an extended time lapse of the coolant skimmer in action. This might also serve as a method of relaxation.

Looks like it works great. Every skimmer I've seen over the last thirty years worked great too. Cheap ones, expensive ones. Both do their job. We run cheap ones on a timer for two hours everyday right before we come in and start working. Never any oil in our coolant

What's a good "cheap one"? I think haas charged $600 for this one.

The result was incredible.... Congrats
That is super awesome, so simple but man I never would of thought of something like this
Seems to work pretty alright.
I get how these things work and all, but it still fascinates me that these skimmers work as well as they do. Especially the kind that use a big ol wheel instead of a belt to remove the oil from the coolant.

Here is the wheel they copied. Ours do not overflow. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mn98s5qYpcS5d7A.html
Neat, the only thing our belt fed skimmer does, is pick up all the coolant, fill the tank and flood the floor, all within a few hours.
We have the 'cassette style' on the 2018 VF-3ss at work. Picks up more coolant than oil and the service kit price is criminal... A $50 fish tank aerator setup will do more to keep the coolant from growing bacteria.
from around 55 seconds I started craving a barista coffee.
VERY impressive. Luckily we could mute the music, but I was annoyed that it kept zooming in; I could not believe how clear and how much oil was scavenged, and I kept looking at the bottle WHICH DISAPPEARED; FAIL on that part. But I will totally purchase one.
Great bit of kit. Is there a link to it?

I hope Destin at Smarter everyday sees this he loves laminar flow 😂
How much does it pick up coolant compared to a belt? I’d say ours removes 5% oil and 95% coolant.

I have a wheel type that picks up a lot of coolant too.
can you see "oil demon face" on 0:51 ?
How long was this time lapse? And why was there so much oil in the coolant? Charles

I would also like to know how long was the process

465maltbie, the time lapse covers approximately 16 hours. The skimmer started mid-afternoon and was turned off the next morning. We purposely dumped a quart of dirty/used motor oil into the tank to make the skimming action readily apparent. Hopefully quite a bit more oil than your typical shop is getting in their coolant every day.

@@haasautomation thanks have a great week.
Or use coolant not made from oil. We use Walther’s synthetic in our HaasVF4ss
It definitely works great, just make sure to turn it off when you go on vacation or else you’ll have a very slippery mess when you get back. Lol
Looked like forbidden cappuccino
How long was this in real time?

Left it running over night, so around 16 hours give or take.

Get more air time on Netflix! People see the F1 show, but you guys should have them follow you through your factory while you tell a story about F1 or something! Red bull makes liquid, Mercedes makes cars, etc. No one makes cool stuff like you guys!
