H10 Livestream: From Cult To Classic - A. Lange & Söhne And Audemars Piguet

For both A. Lange & Söhne and Audemars Piguet, the last two decades have seen the transformation of each brand from a relatively niche firm, with a correspondingly niche appeal, to modern brand powerhouses whose most iconic models are recognized the world over. Join CEOs François-Henry Bennahmias, of Audemars Piguet, and Wilhelm Schmid, of A. Lange & Söhne, for a sure-to-be-lively discussion of the evolution of such models as the Royal Oak and Lange Datograph, and how both companies have become household names among both seasoned connoisseurs, and new-to-watchmaking enthusiasts.

Motorsport and the story of Stirling Moss is a massive part of my life, having raced at the iconic Goodwood. However, I have just been humbled by a watch enthusiast with a passion for telling the story of one of Britain's most courageous racing drivers ever to live. Thank you, Oisin. This is another one of your masterpieces.

I just love how Jack Forster engages in a discussion about "icons" with Lange and AP, while wearing a Rolex Vest and a Grand Seiko on the wrist.

Is there anything wrong with that ? That vest will stay famous for years. We believe Jack will remember wearing it for years. Grand Seiko craft amazing watches.

Audemars Piguet and who said there is? Grand Seiko and Rolex are two brands that delivers major value proposition and a major part of my personal collection. I’m not too sure how Audemars Piguet officially interpreted my comment, but it almost sound like the Brand is a bit “on edge” with what I said? I hope the brand cares to clarify?

This was great apart from terrible sound quality and stuttering. In an industry that still to this day is overpopulated with extremely conservative stuffed shirts,it was very enjoyable to witness two gentlemen with senses of humour and a willingness to talk relatively freely.

What a great discussion. Kudos to these gentlemen for their openness and honesty. Some real insight there to the industry and their opinions. To the haters: Sure the sound quality of these streams isn't amazing, but it's definitely usable and can you really complain when the content is this good?

Sorry AP, but you cannot compete with Lange. The one and only company that can compete with Lange is Patek Philippe. I think Lange is the only company that keeps Patek Philippe up at night.

I would love to see a A.Lange Sports steel watch, mechanical but with digital display, they are the best in the Industry, date, waterproof, luminescent dial, rubber or bracelet, interchangeable strap..., that would be their best seller..., maybe it doesn't make financial sense or maybe it does... small production number, expertise is already there, BTW, the best talk from the Hodinkee anniversary series...

The moment of truth is not when the watch put on your wrist The moment of truth when you try to pretend to be common people and then because of the watch you wear you got attention and noticed that you are the actual master , that you are trying to cover up your identity Noticed only by the higher end observers in a very subtle way

Francois wonders why so many enthusiasts say Audemars is dying.........the answer to the industry is not to sell more to more people necessarily.......these products are usually owned by collectors or people with more than 1 watch they are lasting products you need to cater to and feed the market that’s already a part of this watch world, in order to buy more of your product. You are already making 40k watches a year that is a huge dilution of a brand that did the opposite in its early history. His story of UCLA students wearing watches that aren’t smart watches being the majority is such bullshit. It is in fact reversed. His wishful thinking is going to put Audemars in a dangerous place in the future. This is like the whole argument of if we provide more education to people they will want to buy more. Well that’s also pretty stupid. If people want to know more they must do their due diligence to find that info.
