Huvilya is an auspicious ritual conducted just before major celebrations like marriage, upanayana etc. It is more alike an all women gathering where at least 5 or more married women and young girls are invited. The invited women are made to stand on a wooden platform/mane in the entrance and their feet washed with turmeric water. The feet are then dried with a towel and turmeric paste and kumkum are smeared on their feet. They are invited into the house and offered seat and offer them gifts in a tray/basket which should essentially contain
1. Five types of fresh fruits
2. 1 coconut
3. Blouse piece
4. 2 types of flowers
5. Betel leaves and betel nuts
6 Dhakshine/coins or notes
7. Bangles
8. Yellina chigali , Thambittu
9. 2 types of kosambari
The women and girls are given a glass of Lemon juice or milk before giving the gifts .
An aarti is performed to all the invitees and namaskara/obeisance is done .
