She has fantastic musicality, great agility, wonderful soft tones, and is undeniably great. I just don’t like when she belts extremely chesty trying to show off like she does here. Doesn’t sound good imo.

To be fair she has 7 Grammys and is praised by the likes of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Etta James, Patti Labelle and countless more divas to be one of the best singers of her generation as well as cited by every pop girl today as an inspiration. She's better than average, but we need to be honest about a thing or two. She's really built her career imitating BW (literally admitted to trying to imitate Whitney Houston and Aretha franklin). Yet, BW (and men) are considered "too urban" to go mainstream. These days, WP prefer their soul music come from other WP -- rather than BP. If a BP wants to make it in the music industry, they basically have to be a rapper.

Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and even more Etta James. She even made a full tribute song to the people that paved the way on her Back to Basics album. It's not imitation, it's inspiration. She listened to those artists all the time as a child so it's normal that they effected the way she sings. Just as young artists now are being inspired by her and singers of her generation.

Even Lizzo isn't that dark, which highlights colorism and racism. When we talk about BM rappers, there is no shortage of darker-skinned BM. BW (that look black) don't get opportunities because they are black. This is some Jim Crow stuff. If you don't know what Jim Crow laws are, you should look them up.

I think Christina only did okay here. She used too much distortion in her voice, and it sounded like her voice went out several times -- because she was getting tired. I actually think Mickey did better.

No. That crap sounded horrible. The background singers carried her songs. She was more focused on showing off than singing the actual songs. All I heard from Aguilera was “Yeeeeah” and a bunch of grunted notes throughout the songs. Mickey Guyton could have done the tribute by herself.

A ‘Tribute to Tina’! Really? A tall task. 👌 That said, they did it, they gave it more than a solid go. Sweet intro moment, between HER and Keith, including the crowd cam of NK celebrating KU. Mickey slayed her performance imo, 👏 and Christina A, is usually always an incredible performance, the background singers were also as was said in another comment, impressive. As such it seems, Tina would smile at this. The crowd was also 🙂, 👏.

I just wonder how Christina’s career trajectory would be different if she focused solely on rock… she has the voice for it, it might make more sense than the pop or reggaetón she’s done recently. But I love her version of “La Reina” (El Rey).
