Is that the Cactus shot cabin at the start of the video? Only Castle, Redwing, and Hardtack series presented land surface shots. Obviously not among the Castle shots with the black shot cabins. Obviously not Redwing Lacrosse complex diagnostic pipes array, nor Seminole fired inside a large water tank. Obviously not Hardtack Koa site, since Koa was also fired inside a huge water tank to maximize conversion of radiation into blast energy. That leaves the Cactus shot cabin at the northern tip of Runit island in ENE Enewetok Atoll.

The black boards with holes were collimators to isolate environmental reflection light from direct Teller light of air glowing from intense radiation around outside weapon casing before the casing started to come apart and vaporize. Streak cameras miles away could record the light levels over a few microseconds, using streak cameras that measured light intensity change, to mark activations of nuclear fission primary and secondary thermonuclear stages, something called alpha timings. The diagnostic vacuum pipe led outside the fireball zone to particle detectors, to record thermonuclear particles’ energies over microseconds, to further evaluate weapon design performance.

I remember hearing stories of Australian sailors being exposed during nuclear test. They said that they could see their bones through their arms, even with their eyes closed. Most cried, and many were utterly terrified of what the world had come to.

Maybe about 15 years ago, or less, many of the old nuke films were removed from their storage canisters and digitized. The yield was recalibrated using more modern methods and it was discovered that the older estimates of bomb yields were significantly underestimated.

Russia just left the nuclear testing ban treaty months ago. That’s hugely dangerous. We will never see atmospheric testing again, because of environmental disaster, and the important atmospheric effects are well known.

@@georgenada4671 Nobody will attack with nuclear. The first to launch will be met with a reply of ruination. China can’t afford a war now. Their economy is far worse than the West, with massive layoffs already in their earlier most prosperous mainland region, Shanghai. Shanghai is rapidly losing residents moving out, masses of Chinese losing jobs and can’t afford high cost of living. Xi is incontestably ruining the economy with his incompetence, overspending and increasing grip on mismanagement of the economy. PRC military is awful too. Their largest carrier is junk, riddled with major problems, among the least with their feeble attempt to equal the USS Gerald R. Ford’s rapid use magnetic catapults. It wrecks aircraft trying to use it. Among China’s largest other new ships caught fire in a volcanic plume of fiery smoke. China’s (PRC) jet technology is still US 1980s level. Their hypersonic missiles are highly inaccurate. On and on …
