It is said in the anime she stabbed the customer in the eye, but the reasoning was obscure. Fucking episode was excellent imo.

It’s not really explained in the anime, but in the manga there is an afterlife of sorts, and this is the crossroads. Some demons are seen as regaining their human forms in death, basically signifying that they have been forgiven of their sins. Their actions committed while being a demon aren’t really weighed in judgement on their human soul, since their demon selves are a separate entity. Usually they are tricked or forced to become demons, so really it’s a sin of Muzan, not the individual person. However here, Gyutaro remains in his demon form. He has been sentenced to hell, because even before becoming a demon, he killed people. Not only that, but he made the active choice to become a demon, and made that decision for Ume as well. He also has no regrets for his actions. Conversely, Ume has been forgiven for her sins, since she never made the choice to become a demon, and her stabbing the Samurai was shown to be in self defense. She had the option to be reborn, but wouldn’t do it without her brother.

Wasnt self defence. She stabbed him because he insulted gyutaro. And im pretty sure both him and ume went to the afterlife. The fire i think was symbolic. Him repenting for his crimes one final and proper time Edit: because remember. Otherwise gyutaro wouldve been reborn as a demon again. Didn't seem like he did that in the end

Each time I hear about Gyutaro’s backstory, it hits hard in my heart. My dad grew up starving in the Khmer Rouge genocide time period, and would talk about how he had to hunt insects and critters as like little kid to survive in rural Cambodia. Hearing how it hurt to sit down due to malnutrition, the issues with maggots and flies in and out of your body due to wounds and health issues, i heard those stories growing up as a child, and knowing that people can see what similar living conditions he had to go through and seeing it on screen so candidly hits different.

Fun fact: daki’s name in kanji is 堕姫　which means “fallen princess”

She knew she had a second chance but how could she leave the only person who has ever loved her unconditionally

When Akaza’s Backstory gets animated, I think we’re all gonna get close to dying of straigh up dehydration.

The funny thing is that at first we feel hatred towards the oni, but then when you look into their past, what happened and what they had to go through to be where they are today, the anger ends...The anger turns into pity and sadness, you end up sympathizing with the characters, it makes us wonder that if something better had happened to them, maybe they wouldn't be in this situation.

Now just imagine what will happen when Yoriichi's story is animated. I'm gonna name my ocean of tears as "Yoriichi"

Hits even harder when you read manga.. Ume stabbed the samurai.. because he spoke badly about her brother..... the brother who took care of her after being a few days old. he was 13 himself at the time. and became her mom, dad and brother at the same time.

I'm the type of person that never cries I usually just go blank and process what happened but Demon Slayer always gets me. I re-watched the series alone 2 times and saw a few reaction while waiting on new seasons and stuff when I was bored and every single time I cried when a backstory would show or like even just regular sad moments with Tanjiro.

Even until now i still cried because of this

@@citrusangel9488 Let's be real, Daki7Ume was a literal child when she was burned alive and it was His brother who decided to acept Douma's ofert, she was literally dying and had no will over it. Also, Gyutaro also explains how guilty he feels about teaching her all those bad manners, how she could had been better if he had a better tutor and that. In the end, no matter what, they stay together to face their own sins.

Gyutaro is like naruto in his childhood everyone treated him bad and the people think he is a monster and minato and kushina die when he was a child just like story of gyutaro😭😭 gyutaro deserve more
