Now I give the gimbal some degree of freedom. In this way I can let the gyro do its precession. What I do is basically monitor the position of the gimbal and if the gimbal angle is larger than preset threshold, the servo will push the gimbal to the direction of the movement. I know this is not the correct way to control a gimbal. What I want to try here is to find a very simple way to make my platform stay upright. By the way, I use Arduino Uno to do the job.

Para mantener la motocicleta de pie, yo le pondria un giroscopio con dos volantes de inercia horizontales girando en sentido contrario y para el avance se pueden poner dos o mas volantes de inercia girando hacia adelante todos ellos.

Are you sure the Arduino Uno itself can provide enough power to the servo? Most RC vehicles connect the power and ground pins of any power consuming component to a dedicated power supply. Only the signal pin of the component is actually powered directly by the controlling circuits.

It seems to me like the tilt should be to the left and right and not front and back, as to affect the tilt of the motorcycle in a controlled way. I do not know, and have not tested it.

By applying force in the *front* / **back** axis, the gyroscope actually translates this force into the *left* / **right** axis through angular momentum. The force applied to a rotating disc is eventuated 90° from where the force was applied. Gyros are pretty crazy things! This is an awesome little project.

At this point, you should probably add another degree of freedom for side/side movement of the gyro- that way you should be able to do sharp angled turns, and keep the car steady by keeping the gyro level. Cool work, I'm interested in seeing where you go with it! (Also, forgive me if someone else has already said this, or you've thought of it already XD)

Note the slack at the balance breaking point when the gyro is manipulated before being energized. That same slack is multiplied exponentially under power...correct the mechanics of the control trane and stability will result. Again...great job.

I decided to study a little more about gyros. If I understood correctly you apply a torque every time the platform tends to tilt sideways, then the angular momentum experiences a variation in the same direction of torque causing the axis of rotation to always return to vertical and, consequently, the platform always horizontal . You do this automatically by means of servo controlled by the Arduino. I want to do something similar, but first I'll study a little more about programming and modeling software like SolidWork. I'm busy with other things right now, but I have plans to do it someday. I hope to see the progress of your invention in future videos, Okki. Please, if I said something that is not correct let me know. Would you or anyone reading my review have any tips to give me about what I need to study to build something like that?

Hi Pedro, please read and watch tutorials from Jimmy Demello. He has fantastic tutorial in this subject and recently he made good progress. Actually this is my replication of his gyro. Also please read all descriptions and comments on my gyro-playlist. My information is all there. I do not hide anything. What you need to have is patient to build this. As you have to understand the behavior of gyro first before you will be able to make your platform stand by itself. I will post a new video as soon as I make any progress with this toy. At the moment I really don't have time to do something with this. I wish you much success with your project!

Hello there, I'm following and liking your project pretty much. I want to ask if there is any relation with the power/torque/RPM of the gyro with the weight/mass/ any other factor of the platform I'm using. In your case, the car body of yours. And also can't get the theme of the project. If you can clarify a bit more, it'd be helpful. Will wait for upcoming #s.

Thanks for liking my videos. Yes there are relations between those parameters. Heavier gyro wheel means higher torque, higher RPM means higher torque, so that you can stabilize the platform better. Please check out gyrocar tutorial from Jimmy Demello, he has made very good tutorial in this subject. I also built this toy according to his guidance.

Nice going Okki. It is a shame we have to use natural precession to make it work. I dont think the C-1 is doing that - they are directly controlling the gimbal with a servo and do it so fast that the gyro corrects almost instantaneously. Have you tried to control the gimbal without using precession and what was your experience? Yours looks so good. I finally got a local machinest to make me a rotor (just an aluminum blank with no cutouts) but it generates lots of torque so will try to get back into the game. So happy you are working on this as no else seems to be doing so.

PS. At one time I had a setup to control the gimbal with a servo and used arduino and neural net routine to make it balance. But I was using a tilt sensor and the vibration was so bad it never worked. Should have used the potentiometer sensor and tried it. If I can get this gyroscope working half decent like yours then I will try that routine again with the pot sensor.

Hi Jimmy, nice to hear something from you again. How are you doing? Yes, it's a shame indeed. But I don't think that Louis Brennan's Gyro-Monorail and Charles Taylor's One-Wheel-Vehicle used direct control to maintain the stability of their cars. If we do direct control to control the gimbal, we have to calculate not only gimbal position but also the platform (vehicle) inclination. In my opinion it is of course possible but we have to calculate many parameters (gimbal angle, vehicle inclination, feedback signal, etc.) and put that output as fast as possible. In other word, we need to implement high speed PID-Controlling. I have bought a 3-Axis gyrosensor and made short test (see this link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m66iutWMYrbJpdY.html). But I haven't tried that with this platform. I think my platform is not rigid enough to handle such direct control. To be honest I don't really have time to develop this further. I have many other projects going on besides my family (I have 3 small children). If I have a bit more time I would like to try DC-Motor gimbal control first and after that the direct control. Regarding your new aluminum wheel. What do you mean by generating lots of torque? Can you control that huge torque or not? Thank you very much for your comment and idea. Maybe after reading your comment I have to think for a while and rearange my project priority and continue the development of this gyrocar toy. I think your comment gives me motivation to continue this. We'll see. Take care Jimmy!

Filipus Alexandro Thank you and yes I'm an Indonesian. The behavior of a gyroscope is quite interresting. I don't know if it is possible to use a gyroscope as a moving force. If I rotate the gyro mounting 90 degree (to make the gyro to tilt sideway to) to test your idea, I would also need more wheels on the platform to keep it upright. I don't think I would do that. What I want to do at the moment is to make this toy stay stable.

Hi Okki. Here is my latest effort: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5iMpqmOlr2tc7w.html Am swinging a counterweight like the Schilovski gyrocar but what is interesting is that this is a bottom heavy gyro, both the motor and the rotor are below the gimbal axis. It needs some more tuning and I have a few other ideas to get it to into finer form. Almost gave up several times but finally got the PID working and I sort of know how it works, not all the technical details though. Also conquered the vibration problems I had using the VTI tilt sensor. Little by little.

Hi Jimmy. Your current version looks solid and stable. Congratulations! It seems that your gyro is much more balance than mine :). I think with bottom heavy configuration you don't have to monitor the gimbal angle which is a good thing. The gyro will always find its lowest (mid) angle by itself. If you can control the gimbal angle directly with a servo motor and PID controller it would be perfect, you will get miniature of C1. Unfortunately I still don't have time to implement my ideas with my gyro toy. I hope I can do it soon. Take care Jimmy!

Wow, I installed 3 pots to dynamically control the PID parameters and tuned the system in just minutes. Much smoother, the weight moves very little to keep it balanced and it is fun to play with the parameters. Turns out I only need a P of 4.5 to work and the I and D are zero. This is awesome. Will post a new video in a few days.

Hi Okki. Haven't communicated with you lately. I just got a little self balancing robot going here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/doyNo8GnptHUoLA.html Copied someone else's code and it was extremely easy to implement. May use it on my gyroscope. Hope you are well.

Hi Jimmy. Your robot looks nice! Unfortunately I still don't have time to continue my gyro. Very busy with other projects lately. Hope you are also well Jimmy.
