GYNAECOLOGY - Contraception (The Most Comprehensive Guide EVER!) for Healthcare Students

I have revised this topic over and over for many years, and I could never find all the information in one place! So here you have it, the most comprehensive guide ever to contraception for healthcare students....
I will cover:
COCP, POP - how it's used, mechanism of action, contraindications, advantages/disadvantages, missed pill rules
Depo Provera / Depot injections, Implant, IUCD, IUS - how it's used, mechanism of action, contraindications, advantages/disadvantages
EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION - (IUCD), EllaOne, Levonelle
PERMANENT CONTRACEPTION - Vasectomy and Tubal Ligation
Gillick Competency - When can we give contraception to a child under 16 years of age?
Hope you enjoy! I certainly enjoyed making it.

In the video I said that a POP is considered missed after 3 hours, which is true for traditional POPs like Micronor, Norgeston or Noriday But I've been advised by one of my friends who's a pharmacist that the most common POP used now (desogestrel) has different missed pill rules - a pill is considered missed after 12 hours! So make sure to find out what POP the patient is taking when counselling on missed pill rules :) HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE VIDEO!

This is so helpful! thank you so much for making this video! I have a question about the table on 3:50 about when to take emergency contraception when missing a COCP. I thought that women were generally most fertile around days 12-16ish. Using that logic, wouldn't it make more sense to have a sigh of relief for week 1, emergency contraception for the end of week 2 and beginning of week three and skip the pill free interval for the final week? Maybe im misunderstanding or maybe these two concepts are not related. Just wondering

This is great, thank you!! Now to ask - can you do a contraception OSCE vid in 8 mins please?! I cannot find one anywhere.... maybe it is because it is impossible... :-)

I don’t tend to do OSCE videos as GeekyMedics already do loads of them… but it could be something for the future :)
