I'm sure I'm late to the party but it's so nice to see someone in my generation so well talented in our culture's food. You explain things so meticulously and give the reason why you do the things you do. I'm making orko and dhal and rice tonight using multiple of your recipes, so I'm quite excited. I love Trini corn soup and Guyanese soups so if you ever make a hybrid of those two, that would be so sick. Keep it up, you're a pillar of our culture

The name of the video is slightly confusing: The "5 minutes" is not referring to cooking time; it means the video length is 5 minutes. So, you can learn to cook dhal in 5 minutes :) I'm using Mr. Matthew's channel to learn alternative ways to cook the stuff I always made -- I love it!

it's an old wife's tale. baking soda is often said to make water boil faster. It doesn't. to be honest I've never heard of baking powder being used to make water boil faster, but it doesn't. there is no chemical reaction that could be created with baking powder in water to make it boil faster. salt and keeping your pot covered and using a shallower pot is what will make your water boil faster... we have science to prove this.
