Not only one of the best ever but one of the most beloved. Played clean. All finesse. In the same class as Bobby Orr.

One word personifies Guy.... CLASS

Merci Guy! You were everything I wanted to be as a hockey player and a human being. I could be the player you were, but I try everyday to be the quiet respectful person you were on and off the ice. To his Indigenous boy watching you at 8 years old as you decimated the Bruins every playoff, and to be able to witness your last goal at the Forum on TV, I enjoyed every single minute. Now, as I tell my daughter about you and about the Rocket, she has decided to be a Canadiens fan, and as an Oilers fan, I can forgive her because she is mesmerized by the video clips of just how good you were. Not a day goes by at the rink where I don't think of you.

HISTOIRE D'UN AUTOGRAPHE: Lors du lancement du DVD en titre: «Guy Lafleur un homme et 3 générations». Guy faisait son lancement à la brasserie Molson à montréal au début des années 2000. Moi j'étais juste un petit acheteur à l'époque pour un distributeur video qui avait été invité par courtoisie. Dans la salle il y avait des membre des médias, des anciens joueurs tel qu'Yvon Lambert et un paquet d'autres, des gens important de studios qui faisait la promo de son DVD, bref... Après la présentation, Guy s'est levé et est passé à côté de moi. J'avais reçu évidemment une copie de son DVD en cadeau en arrivant alors je me suis dit, c'est le temps ou jamais. Je lui ai tendu mon boitier DVD en le prenant un peu par surprise et je lui ai demander: «Guy ça te dérangerais tu de signer mon boitier ?» Et Guy m'a répondu: «Certainement, avec grand plaisir !!» Juste sa réponse venait de m'assomer car Guy n'était pas encore installé pour signer des autographes. Toute excité je lui donne mon DVD et mon stylo pour qu'il le signe, mais évidemment, fallait que mon cali..de stylo décide à ce moment précis qu'il n'écrivait plus. Guy avait beau essayer mais il n'arrivait pas à signer ma copie. Guy s'est retourné et a commencé à demandé aux gens autour si quelqu'un avait un stylo, mais y en avait pas. Là j'étais convaincu qu'il allait me dire: «Désolé mon homme, mais reviens plus tard avec un stylo qui fonctionne» puisqu'en me retournant, j'ai aperçu une file de 50 personnes qui venait de se former derrière moi. Je me suis dit, ça y est ! je viens de rater une occasion en or à cause d'un tab...de stylo défectueux. Mais oh que je me suis trompé sur la personne. Guy est parti lui-même à la recherche d'un stylo, il a fait attendre tout le monde, il est revenu devant moi avec un autre stylo, et il a pris le temps de signer ma copie. Ça été ma première et unique rencontre en personne avec lui. Je ne l'oublierai jamais. Il aurait facilement pu me dire, c'est pas le moment ou j'ai pas le temps ou reviens plus tard, mais non. Guy s'est un grand homme, un gentlemen, un exception ! Une grande perte pour le peuple Québecois.

@@fredericbrunet3155 Ce sont des histoires cachées. Si on ne les racontes pas, personne ne le saura. Alors content que ça vous ai plus. Et ça c'était Guy. Il était attentionné même si il te connaissait pas, c'est ce que je voulais raconter. Moi je le connaissais pas non plus avant de lui faire signer mon boitier. Je pensais que c'était un joueur comme les autres. Mais après, je ne l'ai plus jamais vue de la même façon. J'étais même pas un fan de Guy avant ce jour. Mais ensuite, pour moi c'était devenu un grand homme. Bien triste qu'il nous ait quitté. Mais il faut suivre son exemple. Donner, mais sans jamais rien attendre en retour. C'est ça le message de Guy. Merci.

Back in grade school my school mates were always talking about the Flying Frenchmen. Such great teams in the 60’s 70’s , before and after as well. All good teammates, playing a game . We definitely need another coupe / cup.

RIP Guy! A tremendous competitor who played with finesse and sportsmanship - one of the greatest and in my top 5 all time greats!

Une grande légende de hockey comme Michael Bossy je vais m’ennuyer de lui et des c’est talent sur la patinoire c’était un personne gentil adorable et extraordinaire malheureusement je n’ai pas eu la chance de le voir jouer mais j’aurais bien voulu mais en revanche je regarde c’est but encore aujourd’hui sur KZread c’est plate qu’il soie mort à cause du concert quand je l’ai appris à la radio en allant à l’école sa me tentait moins d’y aller

Dear fans. I had the chance to play in the National Hockey League and wear the uniform of the Montreal Canadiens. It was for me a realization of a great dream. To have always counted on the support of the public has always been a source of inspiration for me. I would like to thank you so much for this. If I was able to give you some great hockey moments by always giving my best, I can assure you one thing. You allowed me to experience some great emotions. I am happy to be with you tonight for one last time on the ice. Thank you for all the great years.

When was this video made? The thing which amazes me is that Lafleur and Mike Bossy both smoked cigarettes constantly. Both would go through a couple of cigarettes in between periods. You’d think that the damn cigs would hinder their performance in a highly aerobic sport like hockey. Ironically, and sadly, they both died from lung cancer within a week of each other. Two of the greatest offensive players ever seen in the game. And both were classy people.

The effects of smoking did affect both of them. Bossy was done at age 30. La fleur's production start a tanking at age 28.

@@joeq.public281 Hi Joe, I’m pretty sure in Bossy’s case it was his chronically bad back that prematurely ended his career, not the cancer sticks. But yeah, the cigs didn’t help.
