Every time I see Guthrie play, I just want to yell “Don’t hold back!!” Seriously, he’s on such another level and is the most complete guitarists I’ve ever heard. I cannot understand why he doesn’t have more recorded works/albums; everything from him is a treat, but I feel like while he still has the chops the world is missing out on a lack of releases.

If you can alternative pick in 4s, 5s, 6s, 8s there's nothing stopping you from practicing each and every rythmic pattern.. These kind of people actually go ahead and do it, and have done so for years and years.. Check out drumming paradiddles, you can translate them to up/down strokes, that's at least a couple of years worth of "training" material

@@notauniquehandle you’re right on there, had a guitar instructor turn me on to rhythms for guitar. Think of it this way, there are 2 different strokes, up and down. Think of 4/4 time and there are 4 beats. There are 2^4 different strumming patterns, 16 patterns. We’ll you can subdivide to 8th notes, and now 2^8 patterns, or 256 patterns. You can subdivide to triplets and 16th notes and C the list just gets larger. My guitar instructor when working through some of the 8th note patterns then told me you start mixing and matching the patterns each measure to get build longer patterns or just have a fluid changing rhythm that is always in time and in the pocket. Taking for granted that Govan is the ultimate guitar God, he absolutely doesn’t sound funky at all. The sound is less than fat, and he’s playing the riffs too fast, without that groove that makes you feel like you can’t stop dancing. For those who haven’t yet, just listen to Nile Rodgers here... kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqp4y6aYpsXdoMo.html
