In this video I share some of what I have been learning about the link between our gut bacteria and autoimmune conditions (which is stuff that is not discussed at my appointments nor was I taught this in nursing school). Yoga nidra (aka NSDR) is a restorative experience for the brain and body.
In this unique holistic practice, the brain goes through the various brain waves that occur during sleep while you remain awake and aware.
This allows for the physical body to rest deeply and rejuvenate like how it does during sleep. Except you are awake and aware during this process simultaneously. Science is now studying and verifying the positive effects yoga nidra has on the brain and body.
As you go into the slower brain wave states, the mind and body get to rest and restore in ways that are harder to do while going about our day (which is when the mind and body are mostly active).

    I highly recommend the book When The Body Says No. I also think taking Glycine and NAC dally(cycling off for a week every 4-8 weeks). L-Theonine and L-Tyrosine are also often supportive. High fiber, as you said, is also great for keeping the microbiome happy. Dairy and sugar seem to be very triggering for all autoimmune disease. I highly recommend reading and listening to any podcast with Dr Gabor Matè... it seems to often be people who have lost the ability to say no... that suffee. Whether you were a kid whose parent was an alcoholic or drug user or suffering from a debilitating disease... and it was your job to take care of them(switching roles with parental figures)... or people who were raised to feel like they needed to compromise their inner voice to belong to the family unit(You need to settle down, or not be so loud, or quit interruting me etc.)... These often end up being people who always compromise and always say yes to everyone because they were conditioned to be what others wanted for you to feel valued. Learn to say no when you want to say no. Try reading The Myth Of Normal as well. Brain and gut are connected... and you said the gut does most of the talking... but some of the issues are due to you pushing down yourself... depressing your immune system. Hope you are well. Just knowing you suffer tells me you are an insanely kind and empathetic human... so learn to hear your inner voice. You can be amazing and still say no to people. People who see you for you will always love you.

    Love anything by Dr Gabor Mate, I've heard some of his talks and they're amazing. His stuff deserves a video all on its own. Thank you for sharing! You're right about the mental/emotional stuff, I've experienced that myself. Autoimmune conditions have so many factors within them and I've been hearing that a decent portion of those with empathic sensitivities have an autoimmune condition. Neither the gut bacteria nor trauma are commonly discussed (or traditionally taught) when going to the doctor for autoimmune conditions and hopefully that begins to change the more people talk about it 🌺

    @RestfulRheum In Canada we have some of the highest incidents of MS. All of the people I know are women, and they all came from single mom homes of alcoholic/addict moms... other than one who had an alcoholic mom who was likely bipolar. They all grew up way too fast and were leaned on the carry more than they should have... caring for mothers who should have been caring for rhem. The ironic thing is they will do anything for anyone else, but as someone who used to nurse in a complex care facility... MS typically ends in people who have a very short fuse and lack the ability to soften their words. The ladies who usually made the nice nurses and aids cry were mostly MS sufferers who always saw the negative. For people who were always too nice when healthier... they maybe just find their voice after it's very late in the game. I was diagnosed with ADHD about 6 months ago, been learning so much about myself and what I have experienced in my life. I have two 16yr old daughters at home, and my step daughter is very outgoing and is popular. Her going to parties triggered PTSD which I hadn't thought of since I was a teen(witnessing sexual assaults that bothered me when I was in high school... feeling like I should have done something but also kind of confused because it wasn't exactly rape... but now I would consider it rape... girls too drunk make good choices or too drunk to even know guys were touching them inappropriately).... I came from a very strict religious background(Jehovah's Witnesses as kids)... so I carried this shame and hatred for myself as a teen who, was no longer going to church, but felt like everything that is normal for hormonal kids was a sin. Anyway, I had been worrying about how I have let myself go and always compromised in my last marriage... rather than argue I just let her decide whatever she wanted I would go along with... even if I did not want to. About 6yrs ago I left her, worrying I was going to die before even allowing myself to be happy... and I soon realized I no longer knew who I was or how I got so old and letting life pass me by. I met the most incredible human ever about 5.5yrs ago and she made me finally feel motivated to figure out what was wrong with me my whole life(ADHD and now pretty sure Autism as well)... my entire being fights with itself... wanting order but the ADHD doesn't let me... not a great combo. I started therapy and ready The Myth Of Normal by Dr Gabor Mate. In that book he spoke about ADHD and it felt familiar... so I read his book Scattered Minds and then 4 other books on ADHD just to make sure... it was so obvious after I pulled out my report cards from elementary school. It's still a journey... but I feel happy at times and that hasn't happened since I was in my early 20s(now 49). I realize this is very long winded... but I just wanted to give you some perspective because you are much younger than me... and if I can regain my health you can too. I've been taking ashwagandha, glycine, NAC... had always been talking vitamin D and 450-600mg of magnesium daily. The difference in sleep and daily energy has been pretty noticeable. L-Theanine is supposed to also be incredible for anxiety etc. These amino acids should be cycled... but might be worth looking into... along with some therapy. I started writing out things and stuff I hadn't even remembered started to rise up and I quickly saw that I had a pretty messed up childhood full of trauma(from alcoholic father, drug dealer uncle who went to jail... got out... cousins who were whisked into child prostitution and one married into the Triads here... and became a drug kingpin who also runs escort services and massage parlors... who lost a baby in my toilet when I was 19 and she was 17... you don't forget those screams). You may find some uncomfortable truths about just how much you have experienced... and it was super rough on my fiance(getting married this Wed here in Tulum... in front of our kids and friends, family). Even at 49 I feel the best years are ahead but it never would have happened if I didn't feel motivated to fix my issues... and the only reason I did that was I found someone I wanted to be my best self for. Anyway take care and enjoy the journey. I believe you can turn the autoimmune disease around if you are willing to do some hard work.

    i'm so so happy I found your channel. i've been struggling to get any doctors to take my seriously for 6 years... I finally moved to a big city and finally had a doctor take me seriously - boom - very high anti CCP, very high CRP, mild pos ANA, and no RF interestingly enough. I'm now on the road to treatment

    @@NaymitMayne hey! I couldn’t get a doctor to run anything except CRP prior to my new doctor, and it was elevating slowly over time. They told me things like “it could be anything” , “lose weight” , and “get better sleep” - fully dismissing my pain. P.S. I’ve been on Rinvoq for 5 weeks now and it’s changed my life!

    Hello, I am so thankful to have found your channel. My 8 year old son has just been diagnosed with Crohn’s and will be starting on a biologic soon. He has so many questions as well as his dad and I. Do you have any recommendations on how to best educate kids? We try to be honest with him with scaring him.

    I think it depends somewhat on the topic you're explaining to him. There's a lot that comes with autoimmune conditions from scans, biologics, getting labs more often, food choices, how it affects his life at school and life-long self care. I think being honest is super helpful. I've also found that people often feel more at ease if they have as accurate of a picture as possible. The nurses that work with your son's provider might have great recommendations too. They can help you and your son journey into his new normal, whatever it ends up looking like 🌺

    Have you considered the carnivore diet for rheumatoid arthritis remission like Mikhaila Peterson ? It has put my autoimmunity and dysautonomia into total remission

    Hi! I'm glad to hear you're in remission!! I haven't considered the carnivore diet personally because my body does better on a high, diverse fiber food with lower fat (lower risk of high cholesterol and insulin resistance) and a carnivore diet doesn't provide that. I would have to take a lot of supplements to make up for that and that's not my preference. Plus I haven't personally found studies that show long term benefits over decades and lifetimes on the carnivore diet. Some things work well over the short term (weeks, months, sometimes years) because the body compensates (which works well in the short term) for issues initially and then years or decades later the body can't compensate well anymore and problems start to arise. That's how many chronic diseases develop. There may be some people with bodies that are the exception for the carnivore diet but right now I'm more comfortable with general trends. Because of that I have been exploring with the Blue Zones way of eating because it's been studied over decades and over the course of people's lifetimes in modern times.

    it does works for inflammation i've done it myself for my gut issues, but it can exacerbate microbiome issues in the long run from my research. if it has put it into remission that is awesome though. i am using it now for 6 months or so and as most it's done has not trigger my sibo(intestinal infection), unfortunately your food tolerances become shorter and shorter so it kind of works as a band aid. having said that; if it would do the same for my hashis i probably would just stay strict carnivore. the problem is the majority of people have some sort of dysbiosis now and you can't really treat it with carnivore, just prevent triggering it
