Gustav Salminen - World Champion Advanced Glider Aerobatics 2017
Ғылым және технология
Meet Gustav Salminen - the world champion in advanced glider aerobatics 2017! It was a pleasure working with Gustav on this film. He is a great talent and truly know how to fly a glider with total control. We will hear more from him in the future so remember this name - Gustav Salminen.

I went to high school with Gustav. have not heard anything from him in years. Then all of a sudden this shows up in my recommendations? Crazy. I know he used to fly planes, or at least his dad did. Used to see their little runway and hangar almost every day. Can't believe his a fucking World champion. Damn dude. That's sick

@@gusalmiak Hi Gustav, can you told me what are max +/- G´s you have in Fox with your aerobatics style?
Looks so peaceful and graceful. But I know it feels like the Gs are trying to push your stomach out of your ear holes.
Aerobatics on the glider is one of the most impressive things. Thank you for the video. Good luck in competitions!

Now this is falling, with style.
Every year I tell myself I wil begin to learn flying a glider, but this year I am determined to start indeed, and so is my son (14 years). Flying a glider is pure aerodynamics, and aerobatics is completely magic !!
When I was 14 (50 years ago, learning to fly at Harris Hill in USA) we were taught that sailplanes couldn’t do that (outside loops) because the wings wouldn’t handle the stress. Very impressive. Well done, all around!

@@randomguyinanglider The latter part is not necessarily true. For example, aerobatics are not allowed with any LS gliders. They're also not allowed with most Schemp-Hirth gliders.
Many congratulations, well done, and thank you for the beautifully produced video!

What fabulous footage, flying and production. If this doesn't inspire flying aspirations nothing will. Thank you for putting this together - it's a pleasure to watch such quality on all counts. Cheers from Sydney, Australia - Dave (used to fly powered, may have to consider un-powered now!)

An inspiring story. Breathtaking imagery. Cinematography is of the highest quality. The music is enthralling and the execution of the aerobatics is exhilarating, not to mention their sheer perfection.

man ... that sure was inspirational , amazing stalls at 1:25 .. amazing everything really thankyou , im a student , and learning ....marvelous upload ,, cheers from Vancouver Canada
Gorgeous maneuvers ! Best of luck and keep safe.
This is really cool, also the production quality of the video is awesome!
Learning how to master energy and stalls on a plane without any sort of thrust is the peak of flight knowledge
3:15 - I love those tumbles. The big wings of the glider magnify their effect.
This is so beautiful

That looks hella fun! It was a nice video too.
You're a very good aerobatic pilot!!
Yeah, but does it have an ejection seat in case the engine fails?
Aerobatics in it's purest form!
Do those stalls put alot of stress on the airframe?
Fantastic !
Wow. I bet that tail slide is amazing in the silence of a glider.

Magnificent! Is he blind? Really incredible that he can pilot the glider being blind !! I admire him!
Impresionantes maniobras...yo pude acompañar a un instructor en NEUQUÉN Argentina en un vuelo acrobático y la sensación es realmente hermosa. El instructor era mí abuelo. Héctor Lorenzo Macarrón. Salusos
4:30 is that a pitot tube?
Oh that was him in the Paris Air show of this year? I couldn't hear his name, it started after the propelled aircrafts and jets show, I was wandering around and chatting with US crews because I thought it was over - like countless others - when I saw a silent bird with its red smokes in the air. Absolutely amazing, very graceful. I didn't knew aerobatic gliders existed before that.

Hello, no it wasn't me on Paris Air Show, it was Nicolas Honnons of France :)
Nice video, thanks! Since gliders are crazy about reducing drag, I wonder why they didn't put the canopy hinges on the inside 0:25, or make the landing wheel retract in flight 1:04?

it is because the fox is optimized purely for aerobatics. If they intended for it to also be for cross-country they would have but in aerobatics absolutely perfect aerodynamics are not the biggest concern.
Superb!
Que belleza!
(hopefully!!) I will be taking glider lessons at 16 very soon! There is a gliding club not to far, any tips?

I hope you pursued this path! Its very fun. For me, the biggest hurdle wasn't learning to fly, it was getting overt the pants-sh*tting terror of "Will this flight be my last? Why do I do this?" Funnily enough, I only had those thoughts when I WASN'T flying. The way I got over that was by just going to the club once a week and flying, and then it happened. One day, when the tow plane started up its engine, my stomach didn't drop and my heart didn't leap into my throat. I was calm, and knew that yes in fact, I CAN do this. I can fly, and the glider is mine to command. Even if you're not flying, hanging around the glider club if you can is awesome. You learn so much. If you are interested, trying out a flight sim with a stick and pedals does help your "sight picture" on the off days or off season (but a flight sim is never a replacement for actual gliding). I recommend Condor 2 or XPlane 11 (on Steam). Good luck!
Will it ds?
Absolutely amazing. To ascend to an an altitude glider needs propulsion assistance. After reaching certain altitude the upward movement while looping is astonishing. Just a question is it possible to commute from one location to another by glider after its airborne ?

You use thermals, they are rising columns of warm air, so you can get higher and fly further. If there's enough thermals, a glider could theoretically fly forever.
That was impressive. I prefer seeing that over jets

Super! I used to fly the fox! BEST PLANE ever built!!!! Where in Sweden is your club?
I was surprised to see that you are using a glider with fixed undercarriage. Doesn't the extra drag matter so much for aerobatics?
Awesome! I've subbed to your channel, as I am really looking forward to you getting your "Swift" glider! Though now at 56 years old I don't think I'll ever get my private lic., I can still dream and fly my fleet of RC's ..A 600n heli, 180 electric, a carbon Z 150 Cessna, and a few others, I just recieved a 250 sized race quad that is so fast, ..but maybe someday, I can build and fly my own ultra light! If I do, I'll be sure to record and send to you! God be with you, and as always, Happy Landings!

jacekmak87 I think that if you are smart with your priorities, and disciplined with your money, this is achievable. Multiplying your take home salary by 10 years, and you should be able to afford a used Fox, even after basic expenses. If you aren't able to find employment at a level befitting your age group, then I agree, it might be impossible. First, you must really want it. Most people prioritize having a spouse first. For me, 2 inches would have to be removed from my legs, and 2 inches removed from my spine, and that is too great a cost.

Jasper, is that a parachute you wear while in the cockpit?
@hugomanai6452
6 жыл бұрын
Ducati Drew Yes it is! I'm a glider pilot myself in Holland and we wear the parachute for 3 reasons: 1. Weight (because you need to weigh a certain amount or else the plane will pitch up and stall because the center of gravity would be behind the wings) 2. Comfort/safety (by landing or any turbulence your back may be smashed to the seat, this can give you backproblems, so we wear this as sort of pillow for our back and that we sit more comfortable) 3. In case of an emergency bail out (it's a parachute, what more do I need to say :) )
