Tbh I’m glad the players have some power bc before they were just puppets at the clubs and you’ve got to give props to their managers for pulling it off but it’s just a stupid deal on the clubs end. Like what made you think that was a good idea? And who in the club is signing off on these? 💀

A club builts a younger player in a club and the moment he starts playing goods and you want to start reaping the reward he wants to explore his options at the market. Total poor bargaining by the NRL last year to better protect club integrity.

look at what gus done at the panthers, now he's doing it at the bulldogs. gus is 100% right, player options are beyond stupid. why parra would give the flop matterson a player option is baffling. player options should literally only be someone like cleary or teddy

Someone tell Gus player's have all the power anyways, no need for options. Walsh didn't have any options and he left the Warriors high and dry, they'd be a much better team if they didn't let him go to the bronco's. Player's are going to leave when they want, cos even if u force them to stay per the contract, he ain't going to give 100%, u don't want a player that doesn't want to be there. And also keep in mind, u NEED player's, or u have no teams LoL, so u kinda gotta give in to demands or u won't have player's to sign up LoL

They let walsh go on compassionate grounds.. he wanted to be with his daughter in brisbane. Warriors said they wouldn't let him go to the dolphins and so he went to the broncos. If you give players all the power, what's to stop them from all of them asking for a million bucks.. Sometimes no is needed

Nope simply put the players need to be fined monetary fines from their contracts if they are not trying to their full intent. They sign a contract which has obligations and responsibilities for you and if you don’t uphold them you loose money.

It’s the poor management and player options that MAKE the lower clubs the lower clubs, not the other way round. The only way the dogs are getting out of their hole is proper management. The tigers are only just doing it after a decade of poor management

That's unfair Gus. Players like Schuster get forced out of their contracts all the time. At the end of the day the players need to look after themselves just like the clubs do. It's a business

They give a payout so if you want to leave as a player you should not only loose the money yet to be paid but you should also be fined a huge amount. Any other contract if you simply don’t fulfil the responsibility of it you are fined a substantial amount.

I am all for players having power. Gus is talking like a club manager. How many players over the years has his club chewed up and spit out. Only to come out with no skills and a battered body. Gus doesn't understand that most players don't have a long career earning a lot of money. Most players deal with injury, pain then are turfed out when they are of no use to the club. The NRL should be player focused, they should be paying players and not locking them down and controlling their lives.

the average nrl player career is 43 games. They dont usually have the skills for real world after retirement or enough money saved up to survive the 50+ years after footy. They deserve to have the power. Very rich coming from Gus who sits on his ass makes money off these players.

Whilst I hate Gus, he did play in the NSWRL where they use to have to work a full time job and play. Rather than state that players have no skills after they retire and blow their money well isnt it their fault or the clubs fault for not getting them or teaching them financial planning, after all just look at the mega bucks in any major US sport majority of their players end up broke years after their retirement and their on more money than NRL players. End of the day it’s up to the players to look at life after footy, whether that is going to uni or doing a trade.

  • @pauliewalnuts6734

@@jasonjudkins2056 you cant compare nba /nfl money to nrl. NRL is literally peanuts in comparison but at the same time living in sydney/brissy/goldy/melb are just as expensive as US cities. So its a lot easier to go broke after. Yes it is up to the players THATS WHY THESE OPTIONS ARE IMPORTANT. They are looking after themselves first because footy doesnt last forever.

If you are being managed correctly, you should have back up plans, investments etc. Most players are retired by 35, no matter how good they were, so if you are starting out and don’t make it within 3 years or so with no backup plan then you need to work on back up plans. That’s just life. There are very few players who are truly elite, and managers should be helping their players out in life, not telling them they are the next best thing. In all likelihood, they aren’t.

RL players are slowly becoming like football (scocer) players. Moaning and winding. Over acting on the pitch to get pens and playeds sent of. The players like Slater JT Gorden Tallies will soon be something of the past
