The NRL is trying to marginalize people like Phil out of the game so it looks less controversial and marketable. But this is Rugby League not AFL or Rugby. The code is what it is because of men like Gould. Celebrate the place the game has for them.

That's political correctness for ya. Woke evangelism in motion on the NRL's part. Some of the rules they implement don't make sense or they are implemented in a way that doesn't make sense. Calling the NRL stupid is probably an overreach. The fact that Gus was so fired up when he said what he said last week was probably the reason the NRL reacted in handing out a breach notice. Gus genuinely doesn't agree with a lot of the modern day rules that have been implemented in the game especially the most recent rules for example the disrupter rule. Phil Gould should fight the breach notice. No one shall be punished for publicly disagreeing with a particular rule or how a particular rule is implemented or policed. Phil Gould's no nonsense approach to issues that are present in the NRL has every right to pass the pub test.

So stoked Gus is back at CBRLFC, coaches, managers, players should be able to speak out, they are the ones out there every day putting in the hard yards and not scrutinising everything from a video feed or interview.

I agree 100%.......but Gus has more fun whinging about everything

NRL has gone Disney .. all contact slowly being removed from the game and replaced with speed, more and more like touch footy. Female refs with no control of the game, bunker with 100 angles and frame by frame still gets it wrong more than right and constant mindless rule changes. Latteral can run his mouth about anything and its ok anyone else gets fined. Go woke go broke .. you are loosing fans every week NRL wake up.

NRL is a bit of a joke, i played the game as a school boy, it was a great game to play and also watch, i had spent 40 years away overseas and the changes i see now are bloody awful, it will be touch rugby soon. good luck with that

More ridiculous than the fine that David Klemmer copped for his disrespectful behaviour towards referee Kasey Badger. He should've been suspended for that. $3000 he copped for that. 5 Game suspension and a $100,000 fine would've sufficed for that disgusting behaviour. Even having a player sent off as opposed to a sin bin for that behaviour should be a worthy punishment at the time of the offence. Should be a precedent.

​@mreel3488 he hasn't done anything wrong. He's employed on an NRL talk show that is meant to praise and critique the competition. His comments are fair game by all definitions of his role. Abdo has no problem with the free speech format of the employees until he subjectively believes that it's actually truly an indictment on the management. Gus won't have to pay a cent, and so he shouldn't.

He can voice his opinions in a constructive manner, but as he likes to remind everybody he's not part of the media who can get away with it, he works for the game and thus must uphold the integrity of the game. @@mreel3488 he implied that the rules were stupid for having such glaring inconsistencies. Half of the nrl commentators have voiced such concern, they just haven't used the specific word 'stupid'. If the word 'stupid' is the definitive issue here, then Gus is being fined over semantics, considering numerous others have implied it on national television. He's only in trouble because he's right, and abdo knows it. The rule changes and policy amendments are being subtly swept in subtly, and he doesn't like that gus is onto it.
