One thing I really love about his sound is that it's clearly very influenced by the melodicism of a lot of '90s/early 2000s emo and pop punk. Even some of the inflections in his vocals and the moments he breaks into screams really take me back to that stuff, which I grew up listening to. But that sound has been absorbed and re-purposed by Gus, re-shaped into a whole new indie/art pop idiom that is much more interesting/unique, more tasteful, and very fresh. Also, I'm really impressed with his lyrics. All around, a brilliant young songwriter. Sorry to geek out, but I've just discovered this guy and really love his stuff!

Just watched this music video for the first time in months. The whole album is amazing, the deluxe edition is out now and it’s solid. And I saw him live last month at a sold out show at the Cat’s Cradle in NC, with Spill Tab. Best show of my life. I’m so proud of this man that I’ve never met lol. I remember finding his music right after Prune came out and falling in love with it, while he was still so shy and raw. Now having watched him mature his style and refine his craft he’s so amazing. I hope for his sake he blows up even more and gets the fame he deserves, because he’s got some beautiful talent. If you don’t fuck with him, you’re fucking up.

But the thing is, those people are the few things that are not shit. In fact they're the some of the best out there.
