Exactly right. Matt Sorum was technically better but didn't have that groove. Too robotic sounding. Adler could swing like Charlie Watts did for the Stones. The lack of respect from Duff is easy to understand because he personally also cannot groove like Adler. I bet Izzy respected Adler. If that original line up reformed and if ego maniac Axl allowed Everyone to contribute to the songwriting process it could be incredible.

Cameron Clark Carlton TV The original 5 Men seem spineless and without that us vs. them spirit so many bands before had in spades. Remember, they ALL allowed little Axl from Lafayette,IN to take absolute 100% total control of the band & it's merchandising, royalties, live performances, firing band mates routinely,etc... After 1 good LP + 1 good EP, 1991 sees GnR go through multiple line up changes, unstable mediocre concerts, bizarre laughable over the top videos featuring Dolphins and Axl swimming together, and long boring convoluted pretentious 10 minute ballads which wouldn't sound out of place on 1992 Steely Dan CD single. In other words,a great 1980's punk/trash band with 2 great records. Debut LP goes multi platinum 15 months after its initial release, followed by a platinum selling acoustic EP 1 yr later. Four long years after the debut LP, a bland mediocre pretentious vague boring egotistical double LP is released and confirms the existing opinion that every great punk rock band has 1 or 2 great records in them before they get burned out, tired of playing 4 chords + living for free with off balance fat girls in punk squats.

I'm with you there but Matt Sorum wasn't chopped liver and the fill in for Izzy wasn't that bad either. But yeah, Appetite and Lies were stellar works from the original lineup. I did like the UYI and Spaghetti Incident albums though. Now Chinese Democracy lineup... ehh.... that was and wasn't GNR to me and it would be a good album from someone else but a sub par GNR album.

@@purplebeard1526 oh no by no means were Sorum or Clarke chopped liver! No way!! Matt Sorun came in and saved that bands life at the right time !! Hes an awesome drummer. Gilby fit in like a glove and that guy learned over 30 songs in 30 days to do the GN'R gig !! Believe that?? Unbelievable! So no, they was great great players, no argue in that. And as for Democracy, I fucking love it !! Its not your traditional Guns album by no means but it wasn't meant to be. Axl was experimenting and trying to figure out what direction to go in and you have to realize, without Izzys help with the songwriting and Slash & Duffs help writing tracks, Axl had to go thru hell making that album. Whether he would ever admit it or not..he was lost I think without Izzy and Slash for quiet some time. @@MegaMkmiller Adler is done ? Have you watched recent KZread videos from him drumming (solo or with his band) ? Obviously not, he's playing better than ever ! Are you you musician ? This has nothing to do with nostalgic reunion desire and I don't care about Izzy coming back for example. His drum kit and sound fits much better for Gnr than Franky's, he plays perfect breaks and tempo for the songs and doesn't add some stupid funky break or overfill the songs with useless parts. Steve just plays the right notes at the right time and knows when to stay behind.

  • @KnuckNFutz

I think the lawsuit he filed against the band back in the 90s hurt his relationship then and now. I believe Axl is the main force behind what's going on now and I think Axl is the one keeping Adler from fully joining the band again. It's a shane, I saw them on their tour in 2017 and it didn't feel like like GNR. It was a good show, but if you're going to dona reunion tour, you need to have ALL original members be a part of it. That includes Adler and Stradlin. Too many bridges burned, too much money to be made to truly do it the right way. That's my opinion anyways.

Any serious musician will tell you this: being in a band is 50% playing ability, 25% likability, and 25% having your life together. Sounds like Steven's playing is solid, (with maybe an occasional hiccup), but it also sounds like his likability is somewhat low, because he comes across as needy. As far as having his life together goes, we have no idea, but the guys in the band probably do. All in all, I'm guessing that Mr. Adler doesn't score a ton of points in the "let's hire this dude" category, for reasons that have more to do with his personality and his life stability than with his playing.

People forget, it's still a business. If you want to hear Adler because you like his playing great. Put on an album. But like any other project, you may be great at what you do. But who cares if you cannot be relied on to perform the job required. Otherwise every decent IT Blackhat I know would be working for Oracle or the ASD.

I hate to admit it but Axl Rose just didn't want to be the lead singer of the best version of Guns'N'Roses that ever existed, that title went to another parallel timeline, here in this one we got Axl Rose whom gave us a very short taste of heaven, & a lifetime of regret, a true leader, doesn't give up on he's men, "He was Steven Adler one of the original skull tatoos on Axls arm, & one of my favourite members, as was Izzy Stradlin. when Axl leaves this world & only then he may realise the pain that he caused Steven Adler, but until then he doesn't care, he is unable to put himself in anyone elses shoes, funny that is because Mr Brownstone, is Axl singing about heroine use, but it's ok if it's Axl with issues just no one else, I don't know what the hell Steven Adler actually did to rub Axl Rose up the wrong way but I guess it must have been a form of jelousy because firing somebody else accused of the same actions as yourself means that Axl just needed a scapegoat or someone to focus his hate upon, because he didn't know how to chillax, & meditate, that had a devastating ripple affect on Steven Adler, & one that he could have easily done without.

Steve's drumming is so integral to the 'Appetite' & 'Lies' era sound and while Sorum did a fine job, it simply wasn't as good. You lose Adler in spring '90 & Izzy in Nov, '91 and that was pretty much the death knell for the classic era, at least in my opinion. There's a certain 'swing' to the way certain musicians do their thing, follow? Same thing w/Chris Slade in AC/DC (Sladey is AMAZING and always has been), and for me sounds & plays better than Phil Rudd.

I could see why u think that but axl confirmed that Steven really did injure his back & I think axl would’ve exposed him if Steven did fall off the wagon so I don’t think he did

Kaylita Bebesita But think about it, the official story just doesn’t make sense. There’s no way Duff could be that heartless of a person. Steven probably got so excited by the thought of a reunion he started drinking/popping pills or what not, and Duff realized pretty quickly that nothing had changed since the Japan tour.

I had the time, now that we are in a quarantine, to see how much Izzy and Steven could actually make a difference in the band and Izzy solo stuff makes you realize that it is what GNR is missing to go back to what they used to be and if you see Steven playing with his cover band, he is still pretty solid. So it is not about being nostalgic, but if there is a chance of them writing new songs, they will surely increase drastically the chances of making GNR sound like GNR

They should've had Steven & Matt share the drum duty. If at anytime they felt Steven is not sober, they can replace him with Matt full time. Everybody's happy. Except the new drummer, who could've also done the Chinese Dem songs. Sad to leave Steven and Matt out.

Thirty-two years ago sure. You might want to fast-forward to 2019. Adler is done. Yes, he rocked the drums for GNR back in the day. Matt Sorum couldn't scratch Adler. But it's all over with now. Axl, Slash and Duff are having fun NOW. And so are the fans. Nobody gives a fuck about an actual GNR reunion. I hope they don't! It would be a bunch of bullshit. They look pretty darned old now. Duff looks good because he works out all the time. That's about it.

@@MegaMkmiller I don't give an F what anybody else gives an F about. That's why I said "IMO". I feel once they lost Steven and esp Izzy, something VERY valuable in their chemistry and vibe was lost forever. And yes, Matt didn't have near as good a groove, energy & personality as Steven. That was my point. The band was never again what it once was... That raw, street swaggering, AFD & Lies era, band of brothers ,who were hungry & still smelled like the streets of LA. THAT'S what "Guns N Roses" was and always will be to me and my pals. For us, the Illusions albums were like a whole diff band and the four or five good songs on there, were written when Steven was still in the band. However, I'd love to be proven wrong. If they ever do make a new album(not holding my breath), I hope it kicks butt. But for some reason, people seem to have forgotten how to write good songs. That said, Please let me know if this generation ever puts their cell phones or PlayStation controllers down long enough to learn to write decent music. Otherwise, why would I ever want to "fast forward" to today? People are so desperate for new Rock music that they'll settle for a rip off band like Greta Van Fleet. It's like a bad joke. So just count me out(If anyone needs me, I'll be back in 1987).
